        Hello,
I just found this on my bun, Nibbles, when I was petting her. It is a patch where there is no hair and instead it is a very dark color with a little bit of while ‘dots’. I’ve no idea what it is and I am really concerned. She is a completely indoor rabbit. Idk if it is fur or what because I didn’t touch it for fear of hurting her or messing with it. Her fur isn’t that dark though. Please help me ?

The tip of her fur is dark so when the new fur comes in, it would appear dark like this. Then the rest of the fur shaft a lighter colour. Some rabbits will get dry skin in random places (the white you can see) but fur mite can also cause dandraff flakes. It’s sometimes called “walking dandruff”. You would probably have to have the area tested to confirm fur mite.
Have you found any other patches like this?

Do you think the white looks like dry skin?

It looks like regrowth to me. Sometimes large flakes of dry skin will be present. I’d say, if the patch spreads and the dandruff gets worse, then worry about fur mites. Otherwise, it looks pretty normal from your pictures. At least to me, anyway.

Not shedding chunks like that. I just found another patch right next to it. They are both about 2 inches long. I felt it and it doesn’t really seem clumpy or flakey. How do I tell if it is fur mites?
Also it just occurred to me, could it be the result of a fight? She and her sister are kept separate because every so often they will fight. I haven’t seen them recently, but she does escape every once in a while.

Fur mites makes the skin rough, so if it’s all smooth fur mites are not indicated. Fur mites also cause an increasing amount of dandruff.

It can be a result of fur-pulling. Esp if she’s shedding. If the other bun takes a bite out of her fur when she’s shedding, a whole clump can easily come out. But you ought to have seen the clump of fur lying around in that case.

my rabbits had a fight recently and this was the result the spot is clear of fur but maybe if your rabbits fought it was a while ago and the hair is growing back now. how often do you hold your rabbits and/or check over their body condition?
