my bunnies had a huge fight last night. no food involved poppy. poppy got cut on the back of her ear. I think maybe poppy is or was in heat and cedric was trying to mount her but it turned into a huge fight. there was a smaller fight before that. is there any thing else that could cause a bun fight. the rabbits are now separate. should I try re-bonding them.

Rabbits who are not fixed should not be together. They can and will kill one another if the fights continue.

Rabbits do not ‘come into heat’ Once they hit puberty, they are fertile at all times until spayed. Keep your rabbits separated, get them spayed and neutered, wait a month or two and then try bonding. And be prepared for a pregnancy :-/

Edit: Just saw on your profile that your boy is neutered, how long ago was that?

@Sarah, it doesnt entirely matter when the male was neutered. If he smells her hormones in her scent, he will likely act hormonally as well. Until she is spayed and all of her hormones have drained (up to six months), these fights will continue to happen

Oh I know that I was more concerned with whether he could have impregnated the female

Youre not a horrible person. Just make sure they are completely separated now and cannot reach one another

they are separated and I washed their cages with soap and water so they are now neutral territory (both rabbits are still separated). thank you Mikey.

poppy got pinned on the part of the cage where it sticks up ( this picture was before the fight)  https://www.reddit.com/r/Rabbits/comments/2l6860/bonded_pair_suddenly_fighting/ my mom found me this link and I was wondering  if the fight  could be because I got them a new willow tunnel the one cedric is in front of.

Usually adding in a new item wouldnt cause any problems. The main reason seems to be that your female isnt spayed yet, and while hormones are a factor all rabbits who can smell the hormones will act out hormonally
