Hi everyone. My baby Buddy seems to be going through GI Stasis for the past week. His behavior changed to hiding, not eating his pellet, not as social. So we gave him critical are right away and got about 30cc in him by the time I got him to the vet. They said stop critical care when he’s pooping right. I’m having great problems getting 40 ccs in him every 4-6 hours so he was back at the vet today where they’d him while I was at work. He is relaxing right now and pooping better. But their dark? Or seem a little darker than Peggy’s, (his brother). Give or take they are different breeds, Buddy is a Holland Lopped, Piggy was never classified lol, he’s a regular garden size black bunny. Any suggestions? I’m stressed to the max with him not pooping enough, the fact their darker. I’m so confused and feel I’m doing a terrible job taking care of him. He is also on Matacam for a few days. Please any suggestions Aptos be great to help get through this.

Some poop is better than no poop. After stasis, it’s normal for a bun’s poop to be a little different in color/size for a bit. I’m not sure when you should stop the critical care (when Luna had stasis her vet gave different advice), but it is important that Buddy keep eating. If he is back to eating hay on his own, then I would be inclined to maybe cut back a little on the critical care. But for right now any food, water, and non-diarrhea poop is good .

He is running around the hallway now and eating his pellets. His hay is ehh I think he could eat more. I mean character/personality is fine and hes his perky self. If you didnt know about who much they poo, you wouldn’t know there’s a problem. He is drinking water.

Oh and no, he does not see the vet everyday. He was there 3 weeks ago for a check up. Then the signs showed last Friday. I rushed him in late Saturday and they said he seemed healthy just needed more food. He was fine Sunday showed signs Monday, I called the vet and told them what’s going on and they wanted to put him on Medacam. I dropped him off today to get fed while I was at work and they said he’s not pooping enough. If we can’t get him under control he needs to have an xray this coming Tuesday.

Is your vet experienced with rabbits? I’m concerned that they will make you wait til Tuesday if he’s not pooping enough now.

The doctor who sees him does specialize with rabbits.

Poops can be darker when their gut has slowed down and when not getting normal amount of fibre. When my rabbits are eating tons of hay, their poop is light brown. They can appear darker when only eating greens and pellets. My bun Ailís had a gut slowdown one day this week and her poos, when she started toileting again, were darker, smaller and oval shaped. Once her hay intake picked up, she started pooping her typical golden balls. :p

Running around is great! And that he is drinking too.

Did the vet check his teeth? Holland lops can be prone to dental issues due to their short faces.

They did check his teeth and didn’t mention any issues. Maybe a hair off I think I caught but I dont recall them saying his teeth were a problem.

I cleaned his box last night and added new haYork, gave him little bit of pellets bc he does love them. And added a tissue box of hay in there too. The thin is to feed him 40 ccs of CC 3 times a day I think is way too much. He’s 2lbs but he spits it out and goes right to his pellets or eats some hay during breaks.

if he is eating and drinking on his own and acting happy (not lethargic), I would think you could stop the critical care. I’ve had to do critical care a few times on bunnies with stasis and always stopped the force feeding as soon as their appetite returned and they started pooping again.
It sounds like your bun is on the upswing! Yay!
