        Hello fellas bunny lovers
I have a question about grooming and brushing a bun. Our new bun Cofi has really long and thick fur. So I have been grooming him every other day for about half an hour. He is ready good and calm while I brush/comb him and I think he enjoys it (I enjoy it too). I give him some pellets and raisins as a reward and lots of pets and head rubs.
Even though I comb him every other day the amount of hair I comb out of him seems a lot to me. Is it really all dead hair? I don’t want to overbrush him :/
I mainly use a metal comb and I really get a lot of hair out. Also I manage to keep him mat free when we got him I had to cut some of them off, but since then I brush him regularly and so far so good.

So I guess I want to know if it’s possible to overgroom/overbrush a bun with a metal comb? I don’t use a furminator.

        Thanks

I think as long as you’re not pulling hair from the root (which it doesn’t sound like you are if your bun is happy and enjoying it!) then the more you can brush her, the better To put it in perspective, my boy bun is moulting at the moment and does not tolerate grooming. It stresses him out too much, and the other day at the vets, just from wriggling about there was SO much fur! He’s not even a long hair!

I guess you could overgroom a bun, but if he seems fine with it, it’s probably all dead hair. Ripping live hair out of a bun’s skin causes pain for rabbits.

Rabbits can however overgroom each other, and the human as a rule notices this as bald patches and/or sores. But just bald patches where the hair gets to grow back is just a normal molt in some buns.

Some buns shed all the year round.

Conclusion: If your bun seems comfortable when you brush him and there are no skin problems from over-brushing, I think it’s normal for a lot of hair to come off every day. My Bam is molting right now and the amount of fur I can pick out and brush off of him is ridiculous. I don’t know where he hides all that fur when he’s not molting???
