Olly is an extremely wise and clever bunny, and he’s absolutely right.

I also think that this is very smart. I read up on this issue, when I got Reese, on House Rabbit Society. It is full of good information: http://rabbit.org/why-not-buy-a-rabbit-for-easter/

Also, Can you actually buy chicks? I thought you could only buy eggs for raising egg or meat chickens. My family was looking at getting some free range chickens, but you need at least 3 acres of land to buy chickens but we only have 2.75 acres

Olly is certainly a very smart rabbit.

It’s somewhat common here to keep chickens in your backyard. Rules of course vary between council areas, but people do it. Some fodder stores sell chickens, not day old, but the older chicks just before they’re fully feathered and a little before they start laying. I forget what they’re called. Otherwise plenty of private sales of day old chicks.

I love the thought of having chickens and those delicious fresh eggs from a good diet, but they’re a lot of work too, especially in a smaller yard.

Poor buns and chicks. There should be a moratorium on such sales when it gets close to Easter and last until after Easter is over.

Luna yes you are right, Olly was twice an unwanted Easter pet, it isn’t fair on any animal big or a little, Rabbits are like children, a bit like having a toddler about the place, thank god rabbits can’t hold felt pens and draw on your walls, if they could they would, I don’t mind seeing children holding rabbits and helping to clean them out and feed them with a responsible adult nearby, but children are not for children, yes I did say children are not for children.

Its so sad. So many people just do things without thinking…. I always wince when I realize how close it is for the overflow of rabbits in shelters.
