Choosing a first cage for Milo. He will come home with me early May but I can never be too ready… XD

I’ve opted to get a pet crate for now. In Japan they are called pet circles, and you could say it is their equivalent to an x-pen.

The largest size available to me is 150cm-80cm. I think it could be fine for now, as I do intend to let him out a lot during the night. My worry right now is the spacing in between the rails. I was told it was around 3.5cm… is that too big?

I’ve been searching high and low for an acceptable cage here but the biggest one for rabbits they have is 80cm in lenght! ;(

My boyfriend’s hand laying flat on the cage. Is it too wide? I am so worried.

The cage I intend to buy. Exact dimension are: 150x78x70. I am also buying a cover on top so the bunny can’t jump out.

How big is your rabbit? If you have a small breed such as a Netherland Dwarf, then he may get his head stuck between the bars. But otherwise I think it’s ok. The grids on my condo are 4cm however they do have horizontal cross bars and aren’t just open vertical bars. Still, I think 3.5cm should be ok for most rabbits except the very small breeds.

I think depending on it’s size the rabbit could potentially try to get through the bars and get hurt. I recommend you build a custom cage yourself to ensure he has a lot of room to hop around in for the days when you can’t let him out. Also, if you go ahead with buying the cage, make sure you line it with something soft!
have to say; Milo is such a cute name!!

Thank you for your responses, I will be getting a holland lop, but babies tend to be tiny. :/ I wonder if I can find a mesh somewhere to cover the cage… T_T

If you have other recommendations, such as brands specifically or any other DIY cage that I can make, please do share!

I also thought of making NIC cage, but I’ve since found out that those are not available here. T_T

That would be my concern too – I have a baby gate on my stairs and the bars are too widely spaced so we put a sheet of garden mesh across it but it was too sharp at the edges so we attached a pen panel that had vertical bars to the gate.
