        Hello again everyone,

        Since 2-3 days , I have to put some betadine on my rabbit for something he has or its supposed he has (until the analysis results come back). And every night its a whole process and a messy one because he does not like to be picked up or handled. Tonight, after we finished with the ‘medication’ , while i was petting him i checked his hind leg’s nails – I dont usually check them because he is kinda skittish when i touch his hind legs , but this time he was relaxed after petting so i managed to check for a bit. And I noticed (only be feeling not be seeing) that one of the nails (or toes i am not sure what is the correct term to use here) seems to be sideways.

        Using my great artistic skills I have tried to represent this in a drawing

        I googled a bit and it seems that it’s possible that their nails grow sideways , and, unfortunatelly I cannot say for sure that I checked the same nail before and it was straight. So I was wondering 2 things:

        – is it common / possible that its just how his nail grew?

        – or is it possible that it turned sideways while he was wiggling like a crazy person …rabbit when we were trying to hold him for medication purposes? in this case, what signs should i be watching ? So far he does not seem to be particularly interested in licking that hind leg or something….

        Drawing ->

        Thanks !

        P.S. Last visit to the vet, on tuesday, vet said nails do not need trimming because they are not sticking outside the fur.

          My Bam has one nail that grows sideways only it’s sideways outwards. It’s not just a little bit sideways, it’s almost at a 90 degree angle. My vet guessed he’d broken it sometime (he was an adult when I found him, so I don’t know anything about his history. Bam’s history, not my vet’s obviously!)

          It doesn’t seem to bother him in the least. A bun can break a toe of course, but I think it’d always cause discomfort in some noticeable way, at least to a bunny parent because we’re used to observing our buns so closely.

            my nethie ollie has this same thing, It doesn’t seem to bother him at all, and I had noticed it after his last vet visit. (Just in case you were wondering if others had this,) unless the bun is paying special attention to it, I wouldn’t worry about it!!

              Sorry for the late reply … I couldnt get to check again meanwhile ( touching the hind legs its like touching the forbidden …something – we jump away immediately!) but from what I did check at the time I posted the initial question, one time it seemed to me more like something coming from the position he was staying…don’t know if this makes sense.

              As far as noticing any abnormal hopping, all seems good so I guess either its normal sideways nail like Bam or Ollie …either it was just a one time thing. I’ll try to check again when he’ll let me and post back
