        Hi everyone,

My rabbit has dry matted hair under her chin. What can I do?

        Thanks

Hey simonjcox. If it’s something your rabbit is incapable of grooming so it’s controlled, you’ll need to take matter in your own hands (literally). The method I’ve found best for grooming Wick’s face when he isn’t too into-it is wrapping some fingers around his neck, behind his skull— Definitely do NOT choke your rabbit, but just grip there so your rabbit has limited head movement. You can go in with a damp towel then, followed by a dry towel, followed by a small brush/comb to help alleviate the matted-ness.

It helps to give your bun some kisses and forehead strokes in this position so it’s calming, not worrisome or aggressive.

Hi, thank you for your reply.

I have tried a towel and dry towel and it didn’t seem to do anything.

I have taken a photo to show and show what it looks like:

I will try a small brush to see if this helps.

            Thanks

It may work to wet your fingers and individual twirl the strands, tugging up gently, between your fingers. Wick gets syringe fed nowadays, and sometimes it gets caked on below his chin and he can’t get it. It mixes with his nasal discharge and becomes a mess! A wet towel isn’t thorough enough, so I sit by him with a small water dish and start working and picking at the fur with wet fingers. Having a brush at the same time would work well.
