hi, i have a 2 year old male dutch rabbit. i am going to be calling the vet soon to set up an appointment to have him neutered. i know i should of done it when he hit the right age mark, but didnt know what vet around where i live to take him too. i have found one finally thanks to my boyfriends mom. and there is actually only one vet in my area that spay/neuters rabbits. about a year ago my rabbit ended up getting her rabbit pregnant. we didnt know until close to her due date. when she had the babies we thought she only had four. (all four were still born) but thankfully and luckily there were two little fighters. of course we werent sure of their gender for a while. so my boyfriends mom took the mamma bun to get her spayed. then turns out that both of the babies were girls. so she took them to get spayed about five months ago. now all three of them, their personalities changed. they used to be sweet and not so aggressive. and now you cant even go near any of them without them charging and grunting at you. my rabbit is the sweetest little rabbit i have ever met. for the last two years he’d let me hold him. cuddle with him. he would sleep in my bed with me. every day i come home from work he greets me with kissies.

i am wondering if anyone has had a male rabbit neutered and their personality changed, and what did you do afterwards? i am going to be  very sad if he starts to become aggressive with me like the other three.  i am wanting to get a second bunny, but i am afraid if his personality changes he’s not going to accept the other bunny. but i feel that he needs a companion other than me.

Personality can change but mine became more placid not aggressive.

There’s usually always a bunny out there that will bond with your bun, it’s finding the right one that can sometimes be tricky! Good luck with the neuter

I have had a few rabbits neutered over the years, and I have known many rabbits at the Sanctuary where I volunteer that were neutered, and none of them had personality changes. It is strange that those 3 females became aggressive after spay surgery. That is not common, and I wonder if there isn’t some other reason why they became aggressive. Rabbits can go into a post neuter or spay craze, due to fluctuating hormone levels, where they might exhibit some bad behavior or act a little changed, but that only will last a few weeks, and it only happens in some cases. I have never had it to happen.

Most rabbits do love to have another rabbit companion, to cuddle with, to groom, just to be with. But it occasionally happens that a rabbit prefers to be the sole rabbit in the house and bonding isn’t possible. It is rare, but everyone should be prepared when they get a second rabbit, in case they never bond and the rabbits have to be kept separately. If you adopt from a rescue, the new rabbit should already be spayed or neutered, which saves you money and means you can start the bonding process sooner. The new rabbit would need to settle into the house for a week or so even if it is spayed or neutered, before bonding is attempted. A month should elapse after your rabbit is neutered before any bonding sessions start. It is usually easier to bond a neutered male with a spayed female, but you can bond same gender rabbits too.

Neither of my rabbits (one male, one female) changed after being spayed and neutered Apart from their litter habits!

thank you so much guys! unfortunately, as for right now i will not be taking him to have him neutered.

for the past couple of weeks one of the other females (her name was ponchy) started to become more loveable again.

after her surgery she had lost a lot of weight, she was a very healthy bunny before surgery and afterwards she lost so much weight she was pretty much skin and bone. and she ate constantly while her sister got 3 times as big. this past week my boyfriends mom noticed something was off. she started developing a head tilt. and wasnt as active anymore. she took her to a different vet. one that had way more experience. and he did blood work on her. and sent her labs to ohio where they were able to do more tests to find out what caused it. she had to be fed with a syringe. she wouldnt eat or drink on her own, and couldnt even jump into her litter pan to go to the bathroom, so she pretty much just peed on herself.   we are not sure if this is caused by her losing all of that weight after surgery, or if she got into something. we wont know until the end of this week when her lab reports come back. but yesterday morning she was getting ponchy ready for her daily meds. i got the syringe ready and she proceeded to give them to her. and she was fighting her off with them. she felt like it was weird because she hasnt fought her off before with the meds because theyre flavored with bananas. she held her and we noticed she started gasping for air and i watched her take her last breathe, this bunny family is very very torn up and heartbroken by this tragic accident.
