I have a 10 m/o holland lop bunny and idk how much she weighs. I’ve been feeding her two handfuls of martins little friends pellets a day and a handful of romaine lettuce a day (and unlimited Timothy.) I know this isn’t right and I should be giving her a specific amount of pellets and specific amount of veggies that aren’t just romaine.. could someone please give me instructions for each day of the next week (or however long it is) to transition her to the correct diet ? Please and thanks!

You are gonna need to get a weight on your bun to people can make accurate recommendations you can just hold her and weigh your self then subtract your weight to get a general idea. My vet will also weigh my bun for me as long as I call ahead

I’ve read and my vet agreed that you want to feed about 1cup of chopped greens per 2lbs, Amelia weighs 5.5lbs so she gets between 2.5-3cups of chopped greens daily. When you start adding new veggies in, add then, slowly and one at a time. When I’m introducing a new green I add one leaf of what ever it is into her daily mix, then slowly up it every third day or so. If it’s a fresh herb I start her with one sprig of it to start. Last week we added mint to her diet. This week we didn’t add anything new to the rotation, but next week we will be trying endive or bokchoy

If she is a Holland lop, she will weigh 4 pounds or less. A rabbit that size should get about 1/8 cup of pellets per day.

Some people have thought they had a Holland lop, but they really had a mini lop, which gets a little bigger, up to 6 pounds. A rabbit that size could have 1/4 cup of pellets per day.

The pellets should be plain, with no colored bits or seeds in the mix, and they should be timothy based for adult rabbits.  Slowly transition the pellets.  Start with a 75% to 25% mix of the old with the new, the next week go 50/50, the following week go 25% old and 75% new, then all new pellets.

Of course, she should have unlimited hay every day, one of the grass hays such as timothy, orchard grass, oat hay, meadow hay.

Here are 2 links that show lists of greens and fruit and which ones are best for rabbits. Just try one new veggie every few days or every week.

So I managed to weigh her (using a carrier) and she weighs between 4-4.5 lbs.. on house rabbit society it reccomends 1/4-1/2 cup of pellets per 6 lbs but that’s a big difference! I’m really confused now.. should I just give her a tbsp per lb from now on as that’s a middle ground? Also it says at least two cups of greens per 6 lbs.. so it’s ok to work it up to 2 cups even when she’s under 6 lbs since that’s just the minimum? How much greens and how slowly do I increase them? Just want to be totallly sure

The charts I have seen regarding quantity of pellets per weight state 1/4 cup for a 6 pound rabbit. It seems like 1/2 cup would be too much. At 4 – 4.5 pounds, 1/8 cup would be the right quantity. You could make it a heaping 1/8 cup to give her a little more.

If she is making a wheezy noise, it sounds like she may have some congestion and a vet visit would be in order.

I thought it was 1 cup of veggies per 2lbs so a 6lb rabbit would need 3 cups at least? You have to build up to that amount slowly of course.

Introduce one veggie per week and start off with small pieces – for example, give a small bit of romaine on day 1 and if poops and tummy is okay you can give a slightly larger piece on day 2. Keep increasing the amount. Do that over a week. Then the next week, try another veggie.
