Ok so my boy Oakley is 4months and 2weeks old . Went for second attempt at neuter today ( first no sign of testies )
Today the vet said ” hang on, I think he’s a she … ( keeps checking ) mo … he has a boys formed part … but hmm”
This is a rabbit savvy vet btw

After about 10mins she says there is a couple of options , one : he is a very late developer boy as there is absolutely no sign of space where they will go nor testies at all
Or two : he is actually intersex

She said she has sure he was actually a girl and rechecked many times but he def has a boy part
She is thinking he may have boy part but girl parts inside

She said some boys are late droppers but usually it’s one that doesn’t drop or they haven’t fully dropped – not there is no sign at all at his age
        True / false?

I can’t say for sure with rabbits but I’ve heard of both cases with dogs. I know there is a medical condition in dogs that can cause testes to not drop at all, but the vet typically checks for them with an X-ray before surgery. When I was grooming full time we had one client that was intersex. Developed female externally, but had a uterus and testes.

Most likely your vet could do an X-ray and then see exactly what’s going on

I would get an ultrasound before attempting surgery for a spay. Make sure he has both parts, and not just one. Checking beforehand will also help in case he needs a neuter and a spay

Its also very common for rabbits to be intersex

Monte had dropped one ball and the other refused to ever drop so the rspca had to have him ‘spayed’ as a result of this! Think his ego hurts a little haha

This is very odd. I never heard of it, but some googling for “intersex rabbit” shows that it is appearantly surprisingly common in rabbits. It’s often a sign of inbreeding.
Best let the vet do some tests to check what’s the case with Oakley.
