Heard Peanut’s tummy gurgling just now, his appetite is fine, I got home from taking partner to work about 45 minutes ago and he was eating hay then he’s also just shared a big ole plate of veggies with Buttercup. He’s also moving about okay but because of the unusually loud gurgling, I gave him some simethicone. I figured I don’t want to wait for him to be in pain to administer it. Anyway as I’m on my own atm, the only way I could give him it – ironically – is on a piece of food  I gave him a drop or two (not the whole dropper) on one piece of lettuce and another drop or two on another piece of lettuce. I’m going to keep an eye to make sure he’s still pooping. Anyway, my simethicone administration – does it sound okay? I know normally buns that have gas don’t eat so I thought I’d use it to my advantage. ..

It’s good he is eating, and an audible tummy is better than a silent one. Simethicone is a good idea just in case, but he might need a little more if you meant a drop or two in the literal sense. I think at least half of the dropper (assuming the dropper is 1 ml/cc) would be good.

Ah okay, I just didn’t want to overdo it. Should I give him some more in an hour even if he seems okay? He’s actually eating hay again  and hes had more veggies, and I think he did a few poops a few mins ago but I’ve since changed the litter tray so I can monitor better.

He sounds like he’s doing ok, but if you want to give him more in an hour that would be ok .

He’s definitely pooping, phew! Buttercup had stasis a few weeks ago so I’m very paranoid about it leading to that but so far so good. I’ll give him a bit more in an hour if I hear him gurgling still.

Just given him a little more on some lettuce. I realised that one full dropper is only 0.5ml so he’s had between 0.5 and 1ml but it seems to have helped. I’ve heard no gurgling!

That’s good! Whenever I think I hear Luna’s tummy gurgle louder than usual, it’s like I snap to attention and then I stare silently at her until I’m sure that I don’t hear anything abnormal .

You should see me when I think they aren’t pooping enough, I’m a mad woman! Inspecting their litter trays, counting, feeling for warm poops lol. I think both of my bunnies think I’m insane, they look at me as if to say “what’s she doing in our toilet AGAIN?”

I was worried that he wasn’t pooping as much last night but as he was pooping a little still, the vet said to keep an eye on him. Today he has been pooping like a trooper but he’s just got a gurgling tummy again He wouldn’t take the simethicone off of lettuce today so I had to put it on little pieces of dried chicory root! He’s still got great appetite and is moving around like yesterday but I’m gunna be paranoid about his pooping now! Just before he started gurgling, he did about 32 poops (I counted) and after I heard the first gurgle he did another few.

It’s odd, after finishing the veggies he went and munched hay and did the aforementioned 32 poops, and when he hopped out that’s when I heard the gurgling. I’m wondering if it’s the curly leaf parsley – they’ve had that for the last 4 days but only small amounts but I can’t think of any other changes. Anyway, since the gurgling noises, he has done another 20 ish (possibly more) poops and the gurgling noises have stopped. He’s definitely pooping more this evening than he was yesterday. Is the fact that he’s pooping okay at the moment a good sign or could it still go downhill?

Sarah, I do the same thing with inspecting the litter box! I am a mad man! I feel for the warm ones. With your bun, are his poops malformed? Or are they regular shaped. And with the gurgling, can you hear it from a distance away? Like if you are laying on a bed, and his cage is 5 ft away, can you hear it? Bunnies tummies will gurgle silently, you can hear it if you place your hear next to it. It means their GI tract is moving along. I do it to my buns all the time just to be sure. Did he eat anything else that could be giving him gas?

He’s a pooping machine and they were all normal size and shape . My bunnies don’t have a cage but he was sitting about 1ft away from me and I could hear it which I know isn’t far away but I never usually hear anything. I think it might have been the curly parsley so I’m cutting that out for now. He had a check up at the vet today and he has a clean bill of health. So no worries there. I’m going to just give him romaine, coriander and watercress tonight and see what happens. If there’s no gurgling, I’ll add the other veggies in slowly.
