        Hi everyone,

I am a new user on this forum, and could use some help with my bunny Harvey. For some background, he is a male about 1.5-2 years. I adopted him from a shelter and they weren’t sure about his age. He is fixed and he free roams around my house. Super good litter habits thankfully!!

        The problem:

Right now he is chewing and pulling the fur off the inside of his back leg. I caught him in the act this morning and saw the little bald spot. He had a bald spot on his chest and I took him to the vet. The vet thought he was rubbing on something, so I cut off the lip to the pan under his cage. We thought he was rubbing on it as he hoped in and out. Maybe it worked because that bald spot grew back. He doesn’t have signs of fleas or mites, and the spot isn’t red or inflamed.

Could it be boredom? Any experience with this anyone? He has toys to play with and can go anywhere in the house. But I can’t be home all day so he is alone parts of the day. I have looked into getting him a bonded mate with help from the House Rabbit Society, but wont be for awhile. What can I do to make him stop!!

I have never experienced this. I would initially assume a possible skin irritation/mites, but if you are sure this isn’t the poblem, I’d try rearranging the toy arrangement. How long ago did you adopt him? It coudl be stress from the new environment, so again I’d try different types of chew/throw toys, but I’ve never had experience with fur-chewing.

Thanks for the response. The vet was pretty positive that it isn’t mites. I’ll try more toys and changing them around a bit. I adopted him maybe 9 or so months ago, so he is used to my apartment. Thanks for the help
