A week ago I adopted 2 x 6 week old Netherland bunnies. I have an appointment with a vet this Wednesday for a check up and vaccinations however I think my one of my poor bunnies has injured his paw. There seems to be a white scab on the fur of his hind paw near the nail and the nail looks to be more exposed than the others. He doesn’t seem to be in pain but it’s hard to tell
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced something like this and if so could enlighten me on what has happened, what I can do to help his and how I can prevent it from becoming more injured or happening again?
        Poor thing
Any help would be appreciated !!

I don’t have any direct experience, but I can ask you a few questions: is it scab or is it fur-less skin? If it is indeed a scab can it be he was nipped by another bun? Does he walk fine on it and ignores the scab or he’s licking it obsessively?

Vet appointment is near, so I wouldn’t worry as yet. If he’s giving too much attention to the spot it might be a good idea to try to get to the vet sooner, just in case

            Thanks for your response!
When I initially saw it it appeared to be a white scab that was loose. When I moved the scab I could see his nail and it appears that the skin surrounding the nail has broken down (I’m not sure wether he has been chewing it or it is the result of an injury) and the skin around the nail is slightly red but still intact. He did not seem bothered when I gently touched the area however I didn’t investigate further as I did not want to hurt him. He is waking and hopping fine and I have been watching him closely and have not noticed him biting/licking the site until about 10 mins ago when he actually licked away the scab, ate it (gross) and then licked the nail for about 20 secs. He has since not touched it. I know I’m freaking out a bit I’m just new to these bunnies and want them to be healthy and happy and well and it makes me so sad to think he may be in pain.

A white scab sounds a little unusual. The first thing I came to think of was very early stage mites/mange: http://www.medirabbit.com/EN/Skin_diseases/Parasitic/Mange/Sarcoptes.htm

If the bunny is eating and drinking, pooping and peeing and moving about like he/she should, I think this can wait until Wednesday, but if it looks like the pix on Medirabbit you could call and ask on Monday if they can get you in sooner.
