        Hi everyone,

I’ve been having a hard time clipping my bunny’s nails. Every time I touch his paws, he pulls them away or hops away, or tries to bite/lunge. I’m not sure how to do the burrito hold as trying to get his paws out of the wrap to clip will be a struggle. I usually clip him when he’s eating so that he stays in one place, or else he’ll just run away to hide. Taking him to the vet would be an option, but i doubt that he’ll be any more cooperative. Anyone else with stubborn bunnies? Any tips?

Have you tried the bunny burrito? I can clip 1 of my bunny’s nails without a burrito. The other 3 bunnies, I have to wrap them up in a towel. Do a youtube video search on bunny burrito. You don’t have to go as far as trancing yrou rabbit. Holding him upright or slightly leaned back should be suficient. Very few bunnies will allow you ro clip their nails where they stand. They don’t like to be picked up and wrapped up, but I find it is the quickest way to get it done, and it is only once a month, and they have forgiven me in 5-10 minutes.

I cheat and take mine to the vet. At least they stay still, if I tried doing it at home my goodness they’d wriggle so much I dread to think what would happen.

Joethenethie – you would be suprised how cooperative they can be at the vets… they are used to handling rabbits there, and a little confidence goes a long way. Plus – if the bunny won’t cooperate, I assume they trance them. Sarahthegemini is that how your vet does it? When I have Lancelot’s
teeth filed, I also ask them to trim his nails for me, mostly so I can get a good reference of where the quick is… His nails are often dry and opaque, so the quick isn’t as easy to see as Guin, who also has white fur, but has very clear nails. Lancelot’s nails also tend to develop ribs and twists. I have bever watched them clip his nails.

Every bun I’ve ever had was not a fan of having their nails clipped, but I’ve noticed that they’re a lot less stubborn if you have someone with you who can help. Someone who can comfortably hold them and feed them treats while you tend to their nails.
