My rabbits are bout 3 months old. I had adopted them through a friend who had given me them as a pair when both were 6 weeks, brother and sister. They are really well bonded. But I’ve noticed the male nipping the female regularly, I didn’t take much note to it because I’ve been told its normal. However, today I noticed him nipping her in the same area he has been for the past Two weeks. The area looks like it could be a wound. There was nothing there before he started biting.

Is this normal? Should I separate them?

In terms of spaying and neutering, I am looking into getting the male fixed soon.

They are friendly, no sign of aggression.

You need to separate them immediately. Baby bunnies do not form true bonds, they can only form proper bonds when hormones have come and gone so to speak. You need to separate them to prevent pregnancy and of course to stop your bunnies hurting each other. Some nipping is okay but if your boy is nipping and leaving bite marks, then he’s biting her, not just nipping (nipping is a very very light bite – enough to grab fur but not skin)

Also, are you going to get your female spayed?

This is aggression. Hes not nipping her, hes biting her. They are also around the age where your female could become pregnant if she is an early developer. You are better off seperating them asap to avoid accidental pregnancies and unwanted fighting/injury/worse
