I have a 17 month old single male, neutered at 13 months (late neuter as he wasn’t showing usual signs of needing it until then). Completely free range at this point, though until quite recently he spent nights and the occasional day in a large pen. Healthy and appears quite happy. No UTI.

The problem: ever since neutering he’s been leaving spots of urine, small to large, outside his litter box, where he still does the overwhelming majority of his business. No set pattern: might spot for a few days in a row, then nothing for a few days, then again, then not. Happens all over the house, though tends to be in places he frequents the most.

We’ve noticed that he’s particularly prone to doing this when he’s being petted or seems especially happy.

Vet says may be hormonal, but simply doesn’t know. Compares it to puppies who wee from pure excitement.

Anybody had or heard of similar behaviour?

I’ve dealt with a similar issue as well. Here’s a few things that possibly could be going on:

~ Is your litter box too small? This might be the case. If it’s a good size, put some hay inside the litter box.

~(This is a random idea I thought of but this might work) You said it happens sometimes when you pet the rabbit? If your rabbit allows you to pick him up, put him in the litter box and pet him. It’s a silly idea but maybe it could help!

Now, this has happened to me before but when it happened to me it was just a phase. Try to block areas your bunny frequently urinated on. Hope this helps!
