Ok so I saw these two rabbits on gumtree, both fully grown adults. No one wants adults so I felt sorry for them. When my partner collected them she told him she definitely wasn’t pregnant. Getting a boy and girl I assumed the only way she could know this is if they were done. Big mistake 10days later she’d had babies. We separated mum and dad asap and bought her a huge cage.4 babies made it out of the nest and are now thriving. Eating and drinking loads.
Yesterday we noticed she’d made a new nest and been pulling loads of fur. Last time she didn’t do that until she’d had them. By lunch time the nest was wriggling. We checked on the new babies earlier whilst the other bunnies were all feasting with mum. They look healthy and plump.
My question is, can I leave the older babies in the same space, or do I need to take them out? Preferably they would stop with mum until 8weeks but I don’t want any of them to die because I made the wrong decision.

If you feel the older bunnies will attack, stress out or disturb the babies, separate. I personally would separate the older bunnies and babies. Since mom needs to keep the young babies alive and plump and warm more urgently, I’d keep her with them, and rotate throughout the day. If they’re fed in the morning, leave mom with older kits. If babies are not fed in the morning, wait until they are then move her to the older babies. This has never happened to me BUT i think this is some pretty good aadvice.Additional- if you have experience and know how I’d recommend syringe feed one of the litters. Two litters put alot of stress on bunny moms. Sorry for these unfortunate events. I hope both litters survive. (Baby bunnies can survive up to 3 days without food, but would not recommend not feeding for even a day)

thank you, didnt know they could last 3days without food so i think it will probably be best if i do take the older ones out. like i said they are feeding and drinking her food and water so hopefully it will give the newer babies chance to thrieve.

              Hi, BunnyMania

We have limited knowledge of breeding here on BB as intentional breeding is prohibited as a topic. We understand, of course, that there are sometimes oops litters in situations like yours. However, you may find a forum with a more broad range better able to advise you. We usually recommend http://www.rabbitsonline.net/
