On Friday as I watched Deadpool with my mom we noticed comet had a bump between his left eye and his nose. It is swollen and we got my step dad’s step mom to try and do something but it wouldn’t work. We’re taking comet in to the vet soon (using all of my birthday money to pay for the surgery) any advice and information on this would really be appreciated!!.

Comets 11 months (On Wednesday) and is a Flemish Giant, his abscess is only 1by1 inches yet I’m really terrified. I haven’t slept all night.

Sounds like a tooth abscess.is it where his whiskers are?
Rookie is dealing with the same thing. It was very sudden on set and required immediate attention.
The first time I noticed it is rushed him to the ER where they drained the abscess. It was terrifying and gross. This was mid January. Then it kept having to be drained almost weekly more often towards the end. He got surgery about a week or so ago where they removed a tooth. We are now waiting on the culture results to see if he can get new antibiotics.
It’s important that you see a vet asap as he may not need surgery. They tried with Rookie to see if he would just fight off the infection on his own but no luck so he needed surgery.

            Thanks so much Rookie!

I’m not sure it has anything to do with his teeth, as it’s just left and a little up from his nose, just next to where he cut his face a few weeks ago.

Thank you so much for sharing about his surgery, Comet is going to be into the vet tomorrow or the next day!!

It seems likely that the abscess has formed where he had the cut. Then the cut healed over and bacteria that had entered could grow “undisturbed” under the surface. This isn’t uncommon in bunnies. I’m glad you have a vet appointment. The vet will decide if the abscess needs to be opened and cleaned out and then allowed to heal from the inside and out. Bunny pus is very thick and toothpaste-like, so it wount drain from a wound through a tube like human or dog pus would. Your bunny will most likely get an antibiotic, to take for ten days or so.

Some vets will start with just antibiotics in the hope that the abscess shrinks and dries out without having to be cut open.

Many healing-vibes for your bunny (((((Comet)))))
