I run a small rabbit rescue in my area now, and I’ve successfully found fantastic forever homes for a couple buns… but I didn’t realize until I started doing this how many people refuse to believe rabbits are just as worthy/intelligent/need as much exercise as cats and dogs. I’m having a kind of “down” night after a few days of talking to various potential adopters and finding no luck because I’m asking for too much from the adopters. My bunnies are totally free, but I ask for an interview and a tour of the place the buns would be living. The part where I’ve lost a lot of people at is when I request they stay indoors (or have an outdoor setup with a roof of some sort, just because in my area it’s common for birds to pick up bunnies in a yard), and if they have a cage, they be let out for a few hours every day. I’ve had two awesome potential adopters, and everything sounded great and the bunnies would have had a good life, but they wanted to breed them and that’s kinda the exact opposite message I’m trying to spread. I just don’t want these neglected bunnies to just end up in another home where they’re treated like hamsters and I definitely don’t want more bunnies in the world when there are so many homeless ones. Bleh.

Completely understand. But stick to your guns if that is what you believe in.

There are crap days. For anything. Just do something to take your mind off it today : talk to a friend on the phone, go for a brisk spiderweb-blasting walk.
Educating people is a hard task and you cant stop people doing what they are going to anyway (breeding) but don’t be too harsh if the people have the buns interests at heart.

          Tomorrow will be better. ((hugs))

Yeah. I understand it and definitely don’t think they’re bad people for it, but there are so many homeless buns in my area and 0 other rescues for them. Even the shelter stopped taking them. I just don’t know if I can support my rescue buns being bred. And I’m so conflicted, because these bunnies need good permanent homes and they would’ve had them there, but then there’d be more potential homeless buns, and, like the title says– Bleh.
I just had a foster email me that the bun who I told them was litter box trained (he did great with it in my room for the three days I had him) peed on their carpet and all over their laundry, so they threw the laundry away and are having their carpets professionally cleaned. He’s also apparently “a biter, but a lover”, whatever that may mean. So they aren’t too happy.

Thank you for your kind words! I definitely needed it today.
