Hello, I qualify for an emotional support animal for college, but I don’t know how much it would benefit me or if I would be too busy. I have had animals all my life and find their comfort extraordinary, so caring would not be a problem, but I don’t want to be seen as “weak” or “entitled” by others for my rabbits. I internalize a lot of feelings, so I feel spending time with my rabbits and reflecting while I’m away from home would benefit me greatly. I do not have any problems socializing, so I wouldn’t use them as a crutch to stay in my dorm all the time. My family said I may not have time everyday, but I feel I could find time to scoop their litter and give them fresh hay, pellets, and veggies each day. I am torn because I want to have a fulfilling college life, but I don’t know if an emotional support animal would harm or help my education. Thank you!

Hi! I know a few people with emotional support pets and one of my sisters friends actually has two rabbits as emotional support animals I can say from experience pets can do amazing things in terms of alleviated symptoms of mental illnesses, and I also don’t think it would make you come across as weak or entitled. Since you’re so busy I would say getting two rabbits, so they won’t get too lonely without you! They are a big responsibility, but there are days where I can’t come home between classes or I get home really late and as long as you can commit some bonding time as well as always be able to provide a clean environment and fresh food and water, I think it could be a really good idea. In my experience (both with my own bunnies and my friends emotional support pets) I think they can really help with education, especially in college. I feel like a new person since getting my rabbits and my best friend recently adopted a cat and she was telling me she hasn’t had a single panic attack since adopting her. Pets are a big responsibility but they come with big benefits- especially in terms of mental health. I don’t know your entire situation but I will say that I can’t even express how much adopting rabbits has helped me cope with certain things

If you have to ‘find the time’ just to give them fresh hay, veggies and change their litter trays, are you going to have the time to actually socialise and interact with your bunny? If not, then no I don’t think you should get a rabbit. It isn’t fair on him/her.
