I have two very awesome bunnies, Eve and Theo.  They’re healthy, young (seven/eight months old), free range, have many a cardboard box castle, have other toys, love each other to death, trust me 100%, and get (too many) treats.  However… they don’t binky.  They flop over the way super relaxed bunnies do.  They zoom around the room occasionally.  But no binkies!  They CAN do them, but the last time I saw one from either of them was months ago.  They mostly did them when they were new, but I no longer get to see pure bunny joy.  Does this mean I’m doing something wrong, or could do something better?  Is it normal to not have a binkying bunny?  Or TWO of them??

Zeke really doesn’t binky, but he shows his happiness other ways. He loves to do zoomies and he also loves to loopy loop between my legs and follow me when I’m walking around the house. There’s nothing wrong with the way you’re handling your bunnies, in fact if they flop and are relaxed that is a good sign. It means that they trust you. Some buns just don’t binky, hope this helps!

I often think free range bunnies might binky less because they are more content, and exercise time isn’t limited whereas if they were caged a lot, naturally exercise time is going to be quite exciting. Does that make sense? My buns are free roam and they binky at least every other day but only for a few minutes however when they were first given free roam (after having been separated and then bonded in small area) oh my gosh, I’ve never seen so many binkies in my life!

I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong, and could they possibly be binky-ing whilst you’re asleep?

I’m inclined to agree with Sarahthegemini. In many cases, rabbits that have regular access to large pens or play areas don’t binky as much because they’re not as excited to be out as it’s simply a regular thing. Imagine if you were stuck in a cage and only let out once a week. That one time every week you would run and jump and skip about, happy to be out and able to stretch. However if you got out of the cage every day, you wouldn’t feel as much of a need to do that.

Having said that, I have had Apollo and Luna for almost 7 months, Apollo binkies almost every day, Luna binkies maybe once a week. So partly it’s definitely personality, but also circumstances play a part too.

I was going to ask exactly that today, thank you! We have been giving Tambor more and more free range around the house. We thought that he’d be binking more, as he’d be happier. But it’s actually the other way around. As you all said, he’s probably seeing this as a normal thing now . He still runs like a maniac in the mornings, though.

My rabbit Tommy binkies on a daily basis now that we have a big wool carpet in the living room. He mostly gets really excited first thing in the morning after everyone is up and acknowledges him or at TV time when we’re all in the living room. Also if for any reason I move our excessively large dog beds out of their spots(like to clean the bedroom) you’ll hear a riot happening and go to see Tommy bouncing all around his dog’s beds. Our house is entirely tile and before we got the big rug Tommy would only Binky if he got to go outside and occasionally on some littler rugs, and send them flying. Tommy is about 2½ now.

What kind of floor do you have? Ava and Mordecai will run around, but at most do half binkies, on the wooden floor. If they’re downstairs on the rough tile, it’s less slippy, so they’ll binky. And personality is a factor too, Mordecai rarely binkies, while Ava binkies more.

I’m glad to hear all of the responses!
My house is all carpet, so they don’t have any problem with it. I’m thinking it might have something to do with them just being ridiculously lazy buns in the first place:p

I think he is more content, to be chill in a quite corner tho.

My little bun seems to have a morning ritual with the binkies. It demands that you are up early enough if you wanna see them

My bun is free range all day and only confined at night, she mostly just binkies when she is playing with the dog or trying to get his attention. Oh or if my husband is eating a banana

I agree that the regular access to space probably makes them more “used to it.” But I also know my Jake (who is also free range) likes to binky in the middle of the night (dance party, haha! ). So your buns may binky and you just might not see it. If I weren’t a busy college student who stays up way too late, I probably wouldn’t see him binky. I’ve also heard some bunnies do a little head twitch half binky

Henry binkies and popcorns uncontrollably (*jump* turnaround with a bewildered look “who pinched my bum?”) every 5 minutes of the day.
He jumps at any noise, and when outside on the patio looks like he’s on high alert for an approaching hurricane.
He’s the equivalent of “Scratch” searching for his acorn and it exhausts me sometimes watching him

Zou does a half hearted binky probably once a month (it’s probably the moon!) and she has never popcorn’ed in my presence.
She NEVER jumps or twitches or reacts when I drop something and it clatters enough to wake the dead.
She doesn’t even move an inch when Henry popcorns and lands RIGHT on top of her.
                                    She’s the equivalent of “Baloo”
