        Hi everyone!!!

Currently, bugs’s cage is pretty small, which I feel terrible about. But, she’s out of her cage at least 6 hours a day, and I would say usually 10 hours a day. I feel bad leaving her in her cage for a long period of time, which occasionally I need to do. Thankfully if that happens, she’s out when I wake up for 2 hours to run around, and then when I get home by dinner time, which are her two most active times of the day! Anyways, I want to add a dog-pen type thing or some sort of folding wire fence thing to attach on to her cage when I do have to leave her in there. I’m wondering if a) anyones ever does this b) what you recommend using. I’m hoping for something relatively cheap, and that can be easily folded up and put away when I am around to let her run free.

Here are some pictures of her cage now, and the rugged area outside of it that I would like to set something up around so she has more space!! Any suggestions/links/ideas would be great

I think you can attach another floor to that type of cage! My cousin had the same one for her guinea pig and she found for sale an extra floor that could be added on top after removing the dome-shaped lid.

Sadly I can’t remember the details, but she had it.

Otherwise the puppy play-pen idea will work just nice!. The bun will have one extra square meter to run around and it will be totally safe

That’s good to know, do you know if it was a home made type add on? Because i’ve looked in the past and couldn’t find any made by the suppliers .

I remember she bought it from a llocal pet supplies chain and it was basically another identical cage but without the plastic bottom, and had a plastic floor with a ladder. It was years ago, so it can be the product was discontinued…

Personally I’d prefer to attach a pen, since buns are ground-dwellers. Of course it depends on the personality of the bun, but mine for sure wouldn’t care at all about having an attic

If you get an X pen, just clip it on to the sides of the cage. You could push it up against the wall and maybe tuck it behind the cage?

I used to use that cage and I did exactly as sarabelle suggests. I used carabiner clips to attach an ex pen to the cage. The only issue I had was that my bun figured out how to get on top of the cage, which wasn’t safe. Which eventually led to me moving him into the ex pen full time and I put away the cage.

^^^^ same,.. my bunny, came with an outdoor hutch,.. but, they used it inside,… was pure madness.. never could clean the thing properly,.. then, switched to a ” you and me living the dream ” cage, but, added the xpen, around it… I STILL has issues, with keeping the litter tray clean. ditched the cage altogether, and strictly on xpen now, with a hidey hut, for privacy to sleep, and.. best solution ever — my bun, too, MyLikeIt, also found way to hop onto the cage, when it was inside also  xD

So yes,.. my advice, is to ditch those impractical, small cages, IF you can, and, just look for a solid xpen,.. craigslist, often has several ads out for them, here and there… if you can find a metal bar one, all the better!  – good luck to you!
