My bun does a squeaky thing I call a purr when he gets the attention he wants. Perhaps its a “tooth purr” IDK…

When I was a kid we had a g. pig and he would squeak, squeak, squeak every time we opened the fridge to say bring him some treats. Thats what my bun does only a bit quieter than the pig. Is this a tooth purr?

Rabbits make a honking noise, it’s usually a sign of excitement and most commonly heard in rabbits that aren’t spayed or neutered. Before I had Bandit neutered, he used to circle around my feet and honk. I consider squeaking in rabbits to either be a sound of pain or respiratory distress, but I suppose that some may honk in more of a sqeaky way.

Guinea pigs are much more vocal than rabbits as that’s their main means of communication, rabbits communicate more through body language.

Weird? Its only when he gets petted so I guess therefore excited? Ive never heard a honk so perhaps thats what it is?!

He only does it like up to 6 times at the most. He sometimes does it when he cuddles with the dog too! LOL! All excited. Maybe it is hormones but he has never tried humping anything.

Bam can sometimes make a little twitter-like sound when he’s eating sth delicious. Sometimes he makes it when he’s grooming himself.

Bunny vocalizations must always be interpreted in context. If your bun makes the squeaky sound when he seems very happy, it’s probably a happy-sound.

A tooth purr is a mechanical sound of the bunny grinding/chopping its teeth. It can be almost inaudible, but you can feel it in your fingertips if you pet the bunny’s head while hes doing it.

My spayed female honks when I give her something delicious and I can’t work out whether it’s a “YUM!” honk, or whether it’s a warning HONK to her husbun who is running around and around with his own yummy treat wondering where to eat it !!! LOL

It’s very different to her tooth purr when which I can clearly hear when i rub her cheeks and put my head down to hers.
