I’ve posted something along the lines of this before, but I need help again!

It’s been unnaturally warm where I lived, and warm=bugs. Spiders and ants, namely. More ants than spiders though…

When I was vacuuming Chom’s X-pen earlier, I lifted up the rug and found a few ants crawling around and I’ve seen some in other places in his X-pen too. I take out any salad he doesn’t eat and I don’t think dry food attracts them, so I don’t know why they’re attracted to his X-pen..

Anyways, if anyone has tips on eradicating these ants in bunny-safe ways that would be of much help!!

I’ve read that spraying a mix of water and white vinegar around will repel them. I don’t know if it works but I do know that it is safe around buns. You can actually use the same mix as a disinfectant to clean Chomondeley’s cage .

I tried this but unfortunately it didn’t help- I think the ants live in the walls and crawl out through the cracks. I don’t want an exterminator, because I would be worried for Chomondeley’s health. What are ways to stop up cracks in walls so the ants can’t get out?

If they are in the walls, you could put some diatomaceous earth in there through drilled holes. Then fill up the holes. It’s non-toxic, but we don’t want it somewhere bunny could get their nose up to it and inhale the powder. It can irritate the lungs if inhaled.

As for the cracks, all you could do is fill them up with spackling.

The spackling sounds good- is it pet-safe? As long as he doesn’t eat it?

I would think a low-VOC, eco-friendly spackling would be OK once it’s dry. I mean, no worse than eating drywall, right? LOL Do any of the stores near you carry Crawford’s? That’s one brand that comes to mind.

most pesticides,.. the commercial kinds, that come to spray your house, have somehow, magically become pet friendly.. beats me, how this has happened,.. years ago, I worked for Terminex, and, any and all cage living creatures ( fish included), couldn’t even be in the vicinity, when a treatment was done, let alone, for like 6 – 8 hrs, after a treatment.. well,.. now,.. like .. 15 yrs later,.. that seems to be changed..

I can have my house treated now, with my bird, and my gliders, in the same room ( if you are even slightly curious,.. birds, have one of the MOST sensitive systems, of all ) — anyhow,.. my point being is.. you MAY want to give a professional company a try, but, specifically ask about if their sprays are pet safe,.. yadda yadda…- its just an option, you can try is all, is my advice.. it may or may not work for you, just giving my 2 cents is all!

                    GL to u tho!

It may be because most pesticides today don’t work  very well at all. I have seen ants bathing in some of the pesticides I have used. Same for weed killers. I spray them and the next day I have Jack in the Beanstalk weeds growing in my yard. And I’m not supposed to have a yard. Just desert landscaping. Don’t get me started on a lot of the so-called termite chemicals either.

We had odorous ants in our kitchen. We put out ant baits and they were just eating away. LOL Turns out they are immune to boric acid, so it was just a free lunch for them.

Thank you everyone for your advice!
LBJ10- same! I put those out- not around Chom of course- and it didn’t do a thing.
Can they survive in water? I’ve seen some flail around and then crawl out. I was thinking I could set out small bottle-cap sized things of sugar water to lure them and then kill them?
