Totally non-bunny related but I know many of the members here are from the US. I will be travelling to Philadelphia from Ireland in the summer and staying for possibly over a month to do a work placement/internship with a company there. I’m pretty excited to have the opportunity to work in my field in the US, although it will be hard to leave my husband and theo behind for that length of time.

Anyone who lives there/visits there regularly – what is it like? What are good things do to near by? Any advice for me?

My husband was born/raised in Philly. I ask him if he had any suggestions and he said “it’s a city” lol. I guess there’s lots to do depending on what you’re looking for. Do try a Philly cheesesteak though, it’s a sandwhich thing. Apparently it’s one of those must haves and I was forced to have one when I was there otherwise I really don’t know much about the city.

He also mentioned the colonial things where the declaration of independence was written (Independence Hall), the Liberty Bell. The Franklin Institute (interactive museum that he highly recommends) and assorted other things, the Philly Zoo. And apparently some place called South street is a trendy shopping area. It really depends what you’re into.

Yes I will definitely have to have a philly cheese steak and hope I don’t like them too much or I’ll come home a stone heavier I will have to note all those things. I’ll be getting a bedsit/apartment while I’m there so I envision being lonely on the weekends. I’ll have a car though so I can go explore new places.

I recommend not traveling by car because of the notorious traffic and equally notorious driving style in Philadelphia. Walking and using the subways is the best way (although not always the cleanest, but easiest). Depending how long you’re in Philadelphia, you can purchase a SEPTA pass, which can give you unlimited subway/bus use for a week or month. You can also buy individual tokens/fares in bulk cheaper as well.

The museums are very popular, including the Philadelphia museum of art and the university of Pennsylvania’s museum of Anthropology.

The food culture is great as well! There are so many great restaurants.
