I have a 3 year old house rabbit called Hanley and today he’s started making some squeaky noises. He seems to be doing this instead of grunting but I’ve never heard him do this before except for earlier today when I went up to his cage. It sounds almost wheezy. Otherwise he seems to be acting ok, normally if he’s ill he’s quite stroppy and goes into a corner! Unsure if it’s worth noting that we sometimes take care of a dog, they’ve never been introduced and I even roll away Hanley’s run around rug in the lounge so the dog isn’t in contact with it (worried about the dog transferring some disease to him, possibly a bit paranoid I know but he’s not vaccinated as he stays inside as we have no garden/he doesn’t mix with other rabbits). I figured the noises would stop but he just keeps on making them instead of grunting! Has anyone else had this or know why he’s doing this?
        Thanks

Squeaking and wheezing noises are often a sign of a respiratory infection, or even something stuck in the windpipe (like a piece of hay). Your best bet is to get him checked out by a vet.

I’m going to take him first thing in the morning! Very worried though as he keeps doing it more and more so I’m sat up at 5am with him to see if he’s ok! I have some metacam left over from some treatment he had a while back, so unsure whether to give him a small dose to stop any inflammation he might have already?

I hope the vet visit goes well, let us know what the vet says. Possibly too late now, but I’m not sure on the metacam, probably fine to give as a precaution providing you know the dosage.

Hi, vet went well thanks! He said he couldn’t hear anything wrong with his chest but has given him some Baytril for the week so I’ve gotta keep my eye on him. I’m sure he’ll be fine!
