Lately I’ve noticed Moby does this thing, I’m not sure if it’s new. When I come near him when he’s laying down, or to touch him or pick him up, (if he is laying down he gets up) he will sometimes put his head down and start licking himself or the floor (or whatever is underneath of him) and he does this when the cats come close to him too. What does this mean? Do bunnies do this when they are nervous? Why do they do that?

rookie does that too sometimes when he is being pet or brushed. When bunnies groom each other they return the grooming…but with us they can’t. so they start licking the floor or themselves. I always look at it as a grooming reflex the bun doesn’t know what to do with.

When my male is grooming my female, she responds by licking the floor – it’s a funny sight.
Of course when she grooms him, he just lays back and thinks of England !! LOL

Also when I scratch her bum, she licks & licks… so if I put my hand there, she just licks it until I stop !! Cute !

Nibbles does that too! She licks the couch and a pillow when she first comes out of her cage in the morning ?
