When I was brushing Luna I found this black spot in the middle of her back. It looks like really short fur, but her undercoat is gray, and the black color was also on part of her skin, which is normally pink. Does anyone know what this is?

          New growth, most likely.

Whew, thank goodness! That’s what I was thinking at first, but I wasn’t sure because I have never seen her fur grow in like that before even though she gets grooming from me all the time, so I was worried there was something wrong. I wonder if this means there is a molt coming in the near future  (time to get more lint rollers!)

Bam has black skin as well as pink, but I of course only ever see it when he’s decided to molt in patches (He makes new decisions for each molt. Imaginary converstaion he has with the powers that be: Patches or just a general, very long, continous shed this time, Sir? I think I’ll go with the really long, almost never-ending shed this spring, thank you.)

Lol Luna goes with the never-ending shed every time. I’ve never seen her in patches.
