        Hello

I’m not sure I’m posting this in the right place…

We have booked our bun in for a spaying, I am worried that it is the wrong thing to do because we already have a neutered male so pregnancy isn’t a problem.

Our bun has been pulling her fluff out and now keeps trying to mount our male, I think it can only be her hormones as she is only just 6months old.

We booked the spaying as we don’t want her to be stressed out, I want to make sure I am doing the right thing as I worry about the operation.

Getting your girl spayed is the absolute right thing to do. Her fur-pulling and mounting the male sounds very hormonal. If it goes on, she’ll be frustrated with him because he won’t comply, or he’ll be frustrated with her for not leaving him alone, so the risk of bad fighting is very high unless both buns are de-sexed.

Girl rabbits should be spayed for medical reasons as well as behavioral. Uterine cancer is very common in girl rabbits around age 3-4. For some breeds the risk is as high as 80%.

I can very well understand that the operation worries you – it’s kind of a big operation and it’s always scary to have any procedure done to your rabbit. We are many here who can sympathize. We’ll be happy to give you tips on how to best prep her and arrange things for her when she returns home after the surgery, if there’s anything you are wondering about.

I totally understand how scary it can be having our babies undergo such an invasive surgery but it absolutely the right thing to do. Your bun will thank you once she’s recovered!

Thank you for the kind replies, she is booked in on Tuesday. I just keep thinking about cancelling it but you have helped reassure me that it’s the right thing to do.

You can always ask any questions you might have to help ease your mind a little more My Buttercup was spayed around 2 and a half months ago and I was so, so nervous!

Agree with the others on the importance of spaying.
