I have been noticing that my rabbit’s poop pellets have been a tad bit smaller than average over the past week. I have recently added cilantro to her diet, could that be part of the reason?

I think that’s pretty normal. I give my boys cilantro and have never had any issues. I say, if it’s still dry and otherwise healthy, there isn’t anything wrong. My buns poops change size randomly sometimes having bigger ones or smaller ones. If you are still concerned monitor their behavior and diet and if you find they are not eating or drinking then you have a problem on your hands!

I don’t think it’s the cilantro. When Crysta’s poops get smaller, I up the amount of wet greens and monitor whether or not she’s drinking enough water and consuming enough hay, because that is a very important for the stomach. Also, my two just finished a shed (moult) and I made sure to groom them everyday with a bunny comb during the shed, so they wouldn’t get hair stuck inside them (bunnies can’t cough up furballs). You are doing the right thing by asking questions now, rather than later. If your rabbit starts to push her stomach to the ground, that’s probably gas (it hurts them), so at that point I do gentle stomach massages from the underside and give Simethicone baby gas drops (good to have them handy). I never remember the dosage off-hand, but if you need it, let me know.

Any new food that you offer could effect their poop so it could have been the cilantro. As long as your bun is eating well and still pooping a normal amount, I wouldn’t worry.

What will it look like if she is pushing her stomach to the ground? Don’t they do that when they aren’t moving, or in an alert stance?

It will look like a prolonged push-up/ stretch and you kind of have to look under to see if she’s pushing her belly to the ground.
