Hi – this is my first post here. My 15 month old jersey wooly/netherland dwarf has a bald spot on his face. I found it Sunday morning and my first reaction was his new partner (who I’m trying to bond him to) over groomed or ripped his hair out since her pen had moved.

He keeps hanging around her, so I don’t think that did it, and the skin looks really good (except for some minor irritation now which is self-inflicted and where the hair is growing back in). I can see little tufts of fur growing in and I’m noticing his hair thinning moving back towards his head. There are tufts of hair growing in under it.

He is eating/drinking/pooping/behaving normal, and shedding like crazy. CRAZY. Could this just be a particularly bad molt cycle due to the stress of a new-ish location (we moved from middle TN to south FL) paired with a new partner?? They are indoor, cage-free rabbits.

It could absolutely be a particularly “bad” molt. Bunnies sometimes she’d in patches. They can look really terrible for some time, but if the skin is fine and hair starts to grow back within a week or so, it’s perfectly normal. Try to brush him lots so he doesn’t ingest too much hair when he’s grooming himself.

Thank you! For some reason my images didn’t attach to the post – I’ve tried to attach them now.
