Charlie is acting a little weird tonight. She had her usual veggies and left the romaine – which is pretty typical (sometimes will go back to it, but just seems sick of it)

i can tell she’s uncomfortable because I have her on my bed and she keeps readjusting herself and I can hear her stomach gurgling. She seems like she just can’t get comfortable and sometimes her breathing looks weird – guessing because of the gas?

I feel terrible because i dont have the gas drops to give her – but will be picking up some tomorrow – any suggestions on brands in the US?

She’s been laying on the bed rearranging herself with her eyes almost closed which is pretty unusual for her, but just got up to have some hay – so she IS eating. which relieves some of my concern.

I’m worried because this is unusual behavior for her so I’m nervous leaving her all night and will be in class for much of the day tomorrow

Do you think it’s just gas? Is this something that will remedy itself on its own or will she need a trip to the vet?

Gas is quite common and it certainly could be that. Any chance you can get the gas drops sooner? Brand shouldn’t matter as long as it is only simethicone and no flavours etc added.

With simethicone gas will usually resolve itself. Without it the pain from it sometimes causes them to stop eating which further slows the gut and cause stasis issues which is when you usually need to see a vet for a gut motility med and pain killer to get things moving again and help eating.

You can also try giving gentle tummy massages, or offering some sort of heat source against the tummy, such as a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel (under supervision only of course).

thank you! She seemed to improve pretty quickly after I posted

She did poop last night right as she started moving around and looking better but there was a dark jelly like substance on it which I’ve read can occur through the recovery of GI stasis or gas issues – has anybody heard of this?

That was last night, I checked her poop this morning and looked normal and I’ll look again. She ate a whole litterbox full of hay and her pellets so she’s definitely eating and was out and hopping around waiting for me as usual this morning so she’s acting normal

In a pinch, try elevating her bum and hindquarters to help the gas bubbles escape via toots. It helps relieve the discomfort/pain if gas drops are not on hand. Glad she’s doing better
