My 4 month old bun has been with me for a little over a week now and she is really starting to warm. She seems to only feel comfortable around me so far, so when she started nibbling my loose sweaters/scratching at them as we sat on the couch together I thought she wanted attention. I searched online about it and found mixed results, so I ignored her after she did it again and now she’s sitting beside my chair on the window looking up at me. I’m wondering if this is playful/give me attention behaviour or her trying to assert dominance (she’s not spayed yet)? Also, she’s just starting chewing her toys the past day or so, she wasn’t really interested in it before, so I was wondering if this could be teething type behaviour? Any feedback is appreciated

I think she is just playing. Bunnies like to chew, scratch, and rearrange. I would give her a dish cloth or towel that she can toss around. Mine like to toss towels around. They also like tossing around those jingly baby/bird toys.

My big boy does this. I can’t decide whether it’s a “give me attention” or “hey, you, move and get out of my way”.

            Your bun is super cute!

My Theo does this too and if I let him keep at it he will dig and tear a hole in my clothes or worse, bite me which hurts like heck. I don’t think he is biting me on purpose; it is just his teeth colliding with my skin when he is rearranging my clothes. I have had different people give me different thoughts on this. Some said he is grooming me, playing with me, trying to dominate me. I really have no idea what motivates him to do it. I give him cloths, towels, etc. He doesn’t really like to dig on them or bite them, just me. Theo did it so much more when he was younger — around 3 to 5 months. He doesn’t do it any more at all.

Guinivere is quite a biter. I wear shoes when I am in the bunny room, otherwise she bites my feet. I think she is demanding either attention or for or both. Sometimes I am in her way, and she bites to tell me to move. Lately, Avalon has been standing on my feet begging for pellets, and when he getshis mouth down on my feet I worry that he wants to nip me for pellets. Lancelot never bites, and Morgana has tried to bite me when I pick her up.

The thought of nibbling/scratching at clothing being a display of dominance has never occurred to me! I think it’s just something they like to do sometimes if there’s excess fabric lol. My little Peanut digs at fleece blankets and occasionally my pj bottoms.

Personally, I think that nipping skin is dominance or demanding, and nibbling/scratching/rearranging clothing is just playfulness and energy.

Thanks guys I’m happy that it’s probably just playfulness/attention seeking. it makes sense that she does it when I’m on my laptop then, she seems to be jealous of it!!!

My bun is jealous if i spend too much time on the phone. I get lots of head bumping and if i don’t get off, he’ll poop and pee on my sofa. Lol They are such funny little creatures.
