I got home about 2 hours ago to Gypsy who had not eaten, drank, or pooped since last night. She was also floppy when I picked her up and put up no fight. Anyone that knows Gypsy knows she will fight tooth and nail when you even attempt to pick her up. I took her in to the vet immediately and she is currently being treated for stasis. But her outlook is grim. The vet said he puts her at a 10% survival.

I feed both buns once in the morning and once at night plus refill their hay. Gypsy isn’t a huge hay eater (she takes bouts of eating and entire rack of hay in a day but not often) so if she doesn’t eat much hay it isn’t noticeable in her hay rack. And she had eaten all of her veggies last night so I didn’t think anything of it when I got up this morning and she still had hay.

She is very lazy and even when out of cage she doesn’t move around much. But I let her out before work and she hopped out of her cage and “ran” around for about 5 minutes then made herself at home on my bed. All normal. I put her back before I left and she was grooming herself last I looked at her. All fine and good.

Even though it is looking grim according to the vet I am holding out hope that she makes it. She is not even 3 years old yet. And I’ve lost so many buns over the years.

I’m sorry for your loss. Something like this would probably drive me crazy if it ever happened to my Cinder. Not knowing why exactly she just ended up sick would hurt so badly.

Oh no, I’m so very sorry for your loss. It’s so scary that things like this can happen so suddenly without any warning.

I’m so sorry, Sonn. This is one of the most frightening scenarios a bunny parent can imagine.

Thank you everyone. I am a bit overwhelmed currently with Gypsy’s death, dealing with Tigers new disabilities and the pet sitter, my dog getting sick from treatments for his tumors, work, just blah.

Sudden deaths have always been hardest for my mind to wrap around. I mean she was completely fine or hiding that she was in trouble very well. And now she’s gone.

I am heartbroken. She was the epitome of sass. If she didn’t like something she made sure you knew it. But she was also extremely sweet and loved nothing more than for you to rub her cheeks until your fingers felt like they were going to fall off.

I’m also sad for Moonshine. He was finally getting her to come around to him and he had someone to snuggle up to (even if her favorite thing was to torment him).

                                    Binky Free Loo-Loo.

I am so sorry to hear about Gypsy. Although her time here was too short, you saved her from the little cage in the rain and gave her a wonderful life. The others are welcoming her on the other side of the bridge (Monty is guarding the gate!). Sending you a million hugs.

                                      Binky free sweet Gypsy……..

I definitely cherish every moment I have had with each of my rabbits. Even Walter who only survived for 9 months. Whew Monty guarding the gate huh? That’s a tough gatekeeper!

Oh Sonn, I’d been thinking of you recently, I am so sorry to hear about wee Gypsy. :'(
I just lost my Pip last month to a sudden death. No idea what it was except for that I was treating her for stasis about 5 hours beforehand in the early hours. I had no vet available in that time and she passed the next morning. There just seems to be no rhyme nor reason to it all.

Thinking of you and all your beloved furry friends at this sad time. (((((((((((((Huge hugs))))))))))))
Binky free, Gypsy…when you see somebun chewing on the gate, that’s Monty.
                                            Sweet dreams, little one. xxxx

                                              Thank you again everyone.

MM I’m sorry to hear about Pip. I really hate sudden deaths. One minute everything is seemingly okay and the next they are gone.

I’m pretty sure if Monty is guarding the gate that the gate no longer exists. He never was one to let a barrier stand before gnawing on it.
