I noticed that my bunny Primrose this morning did not want to eat her veggies, I also tried to give her a treat but she wouldn’t accept it. But she is moving around, and I know those are signs of gastrointestinal stasis. She also has urine on her bottom. Someone please tell me if this is gastrointestinal stasis or not because I need to know whether or not I need to take her to the vet!

Anything out of the ordinary’ is a cause for concern with bunnies.

If she usually eats her veggies and runs for her treats then this is not normal and you should keep a close eye on her.

If she is pressing her tummy to the floor it is probably gas and needs to be dealt with quickly.
Do you have simethicone (baby gas drops) you could give her?
Or a special ‘high value’ treat to tempt her with.

If she is running around normally but just not keen on eating – it could be her teeth.
          Or something else.
But not eating (for whatever reason) will lead very quickly to serious GI stasis.

So if you’re not sure and she doesn’t eat very soon, then yes a vet’s visit would be a very wise thing to do. (especailly as the weekend is coming up, and bunnies have a perfectly timed habit of needing an expensive out of hours / Sunday or night visit…

Please, let us know how you get on.

          (( Primrose ))
