Yesterday I got a new bunny. His name is Basil and he is only about six weeks old. He was alone in the pet store, he was the runt of his litter and was separated from his mother/siblings. I went to work right after we brought him home, and my boyfriend unknowingly put him with my four month old rabbit, Smooches. She lunged at him but my boyfriend separated them immediately and brought Basil away from her. Basil did not seem traumatized and was fine the rest of the night. Today I was petting him and felt something hard on his ear. I was horrified to see that his ear was torn. I would say Basil’s ear was due to Smooches’ lunge, but the injury doesn’t seem fresh whatsoever and he did not react when we cleaned it or touched it. I’ll insert a picture of what it looks like. Research on torn ears told me either it’ll heal on it’s own or superglue could help the process? I would love thoughts on what we should do, we’re both pretty upset about it.

I would head to the vet to make sure there is no starting infection and to see if it could possibly be stitched back together. Make sure boyfriend knows that neither bun are allowed near one another until AFTER they are both fixed and healed up

From the picture, the injury looks old. If that’s the case, it will not heal as it has already healed how it is. I would not recommend trying to do anything to it yourself. If there is no blood, scab, or anything that would indicate this is a new injury then I would simply leave it be. You can certainly bring it up when you go to the vet, but it isn’t an emergency. If, however, this is a new injury then you should take him to the vet to make sure it doesn’t get infected. Keep it clean until then, but a visit to the vet should be ASAP.
