My rabbit ate an orange peel right off of my plate, and I couldn’t get it away from her before she ate a significant portion of it. Are orange peels safe for rabbits and if not what should I do?

I looked at a few different websites and there was some conflicting info as to whether orange peels are safe or not.   Here is one article regarding diet from the House Rabbit Society website. They say that orange peels are okay for rabbits.

Another article from the HRS does not list oranges or orange peels on a list of good fruit for rabbits, but it also doesn’t say that it’s bad for them.

This article does say not to feed orange peel to a rabbit.

If your bunny only ate part of a piece of orange peel, it seems like that would be okay in any case.  Make sure that she eats plenty of hay and drinks some water.

My guess is that one orange peel isn’t going to hurt anything. As tobyluv said, just make sure she drinks plenty of water and eats plenty of hay and just want for any tummy upset.

My vet okayed orange peels in small quantities In large quantities, the oil found in the peel can cause tummy issues, but I doubt anyone feeds their buns peel salad for a main meal
