I’m dog sitting at my aunts house for a week so I brought my bun with me. I have everything set up and he’s eating and drinking normally but he won’t go poop in his litter box. When I put him in it he will go pee but it looks as if he’s eating his poops even though he’s in his litter box. I think he’s trying to eat all of his poops because he doesn’t know where to go. He pooped a little in his hay box and another few here and there but he hasn’t had a full bathroom break since I got here. It’s been 12 hours and he’s starting to grind his teeth. Should I wait and see if he finally goes? He’s already stressed from the drive here will a drive to the vet stress him out even more? Other than not going poop and grinding his teeth he’s acting completely normal and still goes crazy over his pellets in the morning.

I tried searching for other posts in the forum that are the same and didn’t find anything so sorry in advance if there’s already a post about this.

        Not sure what to do?

If he isn’t pooping, you should bring him to the vet as soon as possible. It could be GI Stasis, and that can turn into a very serious issue. The drive to the vet may stress him out more, but then they can at least take care of the issue.
Just make sure its a rabbit savvy vet! I made the mistake of going to a normal vet and it made the issue much worse.

The only thing I know from moving my rabbits around is sometimes you can give a rabbit a gut or stomach massage and it will help their digestive tract. If he’s too nervous he might be too tensed up to defecate in a healthy manner, or the dogs barking might have him too nervous to poop. Check for any lumps in his gut if he’ll let you feel his stomach, if not, massage the sides as best as you can to ease some of the tension.
Do gentle circular motions with light pressure using your fingers.

Could it be that your bunny is afraid or wary of the dog? In the wild, rabbits can hold their poop and/or pee if there is a predator nearby. It may be that domestic rabbits have the same instincts. They know that the scent of the poop and pee could alert the predator to their presence.

It’s strange that your rabbit is eating and drinking normally, though. If he has gas pain or other kind of pain, which is indicated by the teeth grinding, it seems like he wouldn’t be eating or be so eager to eat. If he continues to grind his teeth or you start observing other behavior that isn’t normal, you should try to get him into a vet’s office. If the problem appeared to be gas, you could give him some infant simethicone and see if that helps. Some indications of gas are pushing their stomachs into the floor, or twisting and turning, trying to get comfortable. Have you checked to make sure that he hasn’t injured himself somehow, and that could be the source of pain? You could feel over his body and see if any place seems to be tender. I hope that he will be okay soon.

He seems to be going but instead of going in his litter box he’s eating all of them! And it doesn’t seem like he’s eating then often enough. And as for the dog he’s just a small Maltese and rarely barks. If anything the Chihuahua that I live with, that my bun is well acquainted with, barks more than the Maltese but neither of them bark directly at my bun just at house guests and it probably seems crazy but my bun is fairly used to barking. I’m adding more litter boxes now in hopes that he’ll pick one to use!

But as for a possible injury he doesn’t seem to be tender anywhere but I’ll keep checking for signs of gas. As for right now though they’re aren’t any signs. He has gone pee though and he keeps eating his poops here and there. More often than normal so I know it’s more than his cecotrophs that he’s eating

Also, be sure to check places he might poop that he could hide his poop from you at. I had an incident where I thought my bunny wasn’t going once, and it turned out he just pooped collectively in one spot where they were harder to find/see.
