So I have two rabbits. One is white name Shigure and the other is a gray one named Misaki. Both are most likely New Zealand bunnies with albino and chinchilla coloring. They both have their own seperate cages and are both female rabbits.

Recently, I’ve noticed that Shigure has stopped pooping in her litter box and instead doing it outside but still inside her cage. The same can be said of Misaki. Shigure has also stopped peeing in her litter box and instead been going straight to Misaki’s litter box and peeing/pooping there once i let her out of her cage. Misaki also does the same thing. Misaki will only pee and poop in Shigure’s litter box. Before they were perfectly fine with litter stuff especially after introducing Misaki her new much improved larger cage. But recently they’ve switched litter boxes.

How can I fix this problem?

I’ve tried putting pieces of their poo in their own litter boxes. And also leaving traces of their pee, but it doesn’t seem to work.

This sounds like territorial pooping/peeing. They are each trying to claim the other’s litter box as their own. Have they been spayed? If not, that would very likely stop the territorial pooping. Unspayed rabbits can feel some aggression toward one another, and that can lead to fighting, which you certainly don’t want. Spaying also eliminates the chance of uterine cancer.
