        Rest in peace, Black!

Black (and his brother) came into our lives at 7 months ago at 3 weeks old. They were our first rabbits.

Blackie started out as the shy one but quickly turned into a confident, happy and very friendly rabbit. He loves being pet every chance he had, and followed me everywhere.  He was adventurous and loves exploring around the house. and skip out of his room every chance he got.

He was neutered a month ago and seemed to have receovered. And we were slowly changing him out from alfafa to orchard grass so he wasn’t waking up.

He seemed perfectly normal the night before. By the time i woke up 8 hours later,  I was so  surprise to find him limp and extremely weak, laying, and unable to move much.  None of the vet hospital were open yet.  I’m feeling so guilty i force fed him one pellet.  He coughed it up with blood.  We moved him on to a blanket to keep him warm, and he died shortly after.

It’s been two days now. And i’m still heart broken.   I still don’t know what happened. He was a loving and social rabbit. And I miss him everyday every minute.  Looking at his surviving brother breaks my heart too.

Strangely, His bonded brother seems to not be bothered by Black’s disappearance. He ate happily by himself (albeit ignoring me unless i have food) and eating a lot more. Unlike his social brother Blackie, the surviving one  would only tolerate humans and being pet if he’s with Black).

I’m so sorry for your loss. It sounds like Blackie was a very happy rabbit.

I hope his brother will be ok. He might become a lot more social now when he’s on his own.

              Binky Free, Blackie.
