Hi everyone, I’m looking for tips on the best way to maintain a fuzzy lops fur. I have a 6 month old un-neutered male fuzzy (he is scheduled for his neuter surgery next week). I’m having a very hard time getting mats out of his bum. He kicks like crazy whenieven go near it. He didn’t used to do hat. ‘Y vet said he is getting hormonal and should calm down after he is neutered. I would like to use clippers on the area but I am very new to long haired breeds and I’m nervous I will hurt him. The vet said most long haired breed owners cut the coat down. Is there a way to do this without making him look like a poodle?

Welcome! Your post popped up in the Tech section, so I moved it here where it’s more likely to be seen. : )

I don’t have any experience with long furred bunnies, though I spent some time removing little mats around the tail from my short haired elderly bun last night. I can only imagine how quickly it matts for the long furred breeds!

Could you request the clinic do a sanitary shave for him when he goes in for his neuter? That might help you keep on top of things until you can get him more accustomed to grooming.

Hopefully some other members will have some grooming advice for you.
