I am a proud new owner to two gorgeous 3 month old bunnies, they are two little girls, very loving and doting to us. But I am worried about when is the best time to let the bunnies out all the time. At the moment they are let out for 4 hours depending on their behaviour but they are very naughty and love eating the carpet to the point where they are ripping holes in the carpet. I have tried a spray bottle and they seem to ignore it I don’t know whether it’s cause they’re in the cage or whether it’s just their age. I’m just so excited for when I can leave them to be free without having to worry about them being naughty.

Any help would be much appreciated,

        Christina

My bunnies became free roaming bunnies a couple weeks after we got them. So when they were about two and a half-ish months old. They would have been free roaming sooner but we had to make sure everywhere was bunny proofed. By this time they were already peeing exclusively in their litter trays.

If they’re chewing at your carpets, just put mats or fleece blankets down? I’m lucky as mine were very well behaved for the most part.

They might start spraying when their hormones kick in, but they might not. Mine never did! In fact, I sometimes question whether they even went through puberty :p But it’s something to keep in mind.

You’ve also got to keep in mind what you will do when it’s time to separate them. I ended up dividing my living room in half – one half for each bun when I separated them which means they had less space for a while. Again, something to keep in mind

            Thank you so much,
Unfortunately they’re very big personalities so they love to munch on many objects in the flat. We have been putting blankets down for them but they still will find a new section of carpet that they love to bite.
I don’t think we need to separate them as they’re a bonded pair of girls..unless I’m wrong? But we are only in a temporary home at the moment so we are looking for somewhere where they will be more comfortable to roam.

It can be hard to determine the correct sex. I suggest you have a vet or someone with a lot of knowledge look at them soon just to make sure you won’t end up with babies.

My entire house is shaggy carpet, so I feel your pain with the holes in the carpet. I discovered that once the buns had more space to roam and they had more toys to focus on (lots of cardboard boxes and hay inside lunch bags and those cardboard cat scratcher boxes with a hole so they can go inside) they stopped focusing on the carpet. I sometimes catch them, but I just push them away when they do it and they usually get focused on something else again
