So my poor bun ate out her stitches. She managed to chew her cone off in the night. She was given metal wired stitches this time but I am so paranoid she’s going to slip out of her cone and do it all over again. I can’t even sleep! I usually set an alarm and wake up in the middle of the night to check her and she still managed to get it off while I was sleeping. She doesn’t seem to be in any pain and is drinking and eating and pooping fine but she’s the biggest brat about that damn cone. She won’t even take her medicine unless I hold her down. She’s on three different meds at the moment one for digestive purposes, pain killers and the new one just in case she’s at risk for infection since she tore her stitches out. the doc got her a much more snug fitting cone but it drives her to insanity and I feel so bad but there is no alternative. I’ve only had her for a month and she was the best before the surgery I just hope this experience isn’t going to make her hate me. I feel so terrible and helpless. Please let me know if she’lol return to her normal loving self once the healing process is over. ?

Hi! My rabbit had this same issue a few weeks ago, he was constantly taking off his cone! He did not like it at all, he would not move or jump around like before but once that cone was off, he was as happy as can be! I’m sure she’ll be fine once this is over! To build trust again, try just taking off the cone once a day for a little while and watch her. Mine would not leave the stitches alone, so I had to closely supervise. You can also try giving her treats after you give her medicine so she associates it with something good!
          Good luck and happy healing!
