        Hi everyone

I’m currently using newspaper and hay as litter, which isn’t very absorbant and needs to be changed almost every hour in order to keep my bunny’s feet and toosh clean. The wood-based litter at my local pet store is expensive, and Yesterday’s News and other Carefresh beddings are also costly. I was wondering if there is any way to diy some litter (maybe shredding scrap paper, soaking, and then drying it to form a sort of “makeshift” carefresh). Does anyone have any suggestions? What do you use as litter?

Also, Joey tends to “flick” his feet after he finishes his business, which sprays pee everywhere. The wall next to his litterbox is already stained. I thought of maybe putting up a curtain on the wall or something. Has anyone else had this sort of issue?

I know there are videos on how to make your own carefresh style bedding on youtube. However it looks like a lot of work, especially for the amount you would need.

I use wood pellets for litter, costs me about $15 for 33 pounds, and at the rate I use it costs me about .40 cents a day to use. I don’t know what stores you have in canada, but I think tractor supply and home depot sell the wood pellets for much cheaper than the bags at a pet store. Here the same product in pet stores would cost me about $24

In regards to flicking feet, a litterbox with higher sides could work. I have my litter box in the corner of their condo cage, and on the outside of the wire in that corner I have some coreflute 14inches high to stop things being flicked out.

Wood stove pellets (plain, with no accellerants) or horse stall pellets are by far the cheapest things to use in litter boxes. The horse stall pellets can be found at feed stores, horse supply stores or Tractor supply. Most of these come in 40 pound bags for $5 or $6 in the U.S. Hopefully, they would be comparably priced in Canada.

We use wooden pellet kitty litter, which is € 3,10 for a 10 L bag at the supermarket. We can change his litter box with this 10 times, we go through about 1 bag a month.
