I’ve had my rabbit for a few months now and she’s been a bit aloof. But recently she’s been acting weird when I pet her. She’ll flop down onto her side/back and sit up to do it again. Or she’ll stretch out on her stomach. I’m just checking to see if this is normal as she’s never done it before.

Either she is trying to get comfy or she might have some gas. My Badger flops around like that until he gets just the right spot, and then he will have a little cat nap

Maybe. She started doing it two days ago and only when I’m petting her. I can’t tell if this is normal behavior, if something is wrong since it just started, or if she’s trying to say no touchy. I’m really good at understanding cat body language, but not so much bunny apparently.

I had never heard of or seen s bunny flop on its side before. I had my bun several weeks when he was on his side in his cage with his feet halfway in air. He looked dead!! I ran over to see if he was breathing and of course he hopped right up in full alert. Then i saw him flop several times. I wrote my breeder in a panic. She said oh he’s just super relaxed!

I don’t want to tell you to dismiss any possibility of a physical problem. Always be on lookout for that when behavior changes. But just wanted to share my experience in case it’s helpful

First time I saw Buttercup flopped in her litter box I thought she was dead! They are awfully dramatic but it’s so funny to watch!
