Curious to know how some of you acquired your buns and what made you fall in love with them.  And what is your favourite thing about him/her?

I met Bam in the woods where I was taking a walk with my dog. It was actually she who saw him first: She froze and I had to go and take a look at what she was staring at. At first I thought it was a pigeon =) But it was Bam. I asked him what he was doing there and then I picked him up. There was garbage around him, old clothes and old paint-tins and stuff, so I figured someone had just left him there, at the side of the dirt track. I think I fell in love with him the first time he stood on his hind legs to peek over the edge of the cardboard box I housed him in his first few days with me.

I don’t know what’s my favorite thing about Bam. There are a million adorable things about him. He loves to cuddle and always reciprocates by licking the human’s hand. He snatches food out of one’s hand. He bites my mother’s feet if she stops petting him sooner than he finds appropriate.

I met Bramble when he was six weeks old. I was desperate for a bun and had been checking out a local classified site as I wanted to adopt if possible but knew it was unlikely that the SSPCA would let me due to their stupid rules about living in rented accommodation and already having a pet at the time, plus living in a flat on a main road even although the intention was always for Bramble to be a house rabbit.

I was just about to turn the computer off one night and thought I would have a final look on the site, there was an ad for an oops litter. I immediately messaged the man who told me all about how he had bought these two male rabbits, took them for a vet check and found out one was female and pregnant already. The babies were already weaned and had a clean bill of health from the vet who had said that it was ok to rehome them. The next day I went and bought supplies and later that night two tiny bunnies were brought to my house for me to choose from. I couldn’t choose of course but I put my hand in the carrier to pet them and the one that would become Bramble licked my hand – he chose me and we have been friends ever since. I took him up the stairs immediately and that was that.

A year or so later our circumstances had changed so that there were periods of time when no one was home, I noticed a big change in Bramble and came to the realisation that he needed a friend. I turned to the same site in search of a spayed female. Instead I came across an ad for Ron, a neutered 2 year old (at the time) male. His story was super sad, this guys flatmate had taken him from his previous owner who was not looking after him, she had taken him to the vet, had him neutered and generally tried her best for him. She was not from this country and had to return home, leaving Ron with the flatmate. The flatmate couldn’t afford the rent on his own and was having to move back in with his parents and their two large dogs – he couldn’t take Ron with him so I went and got him.

bam – Oh that’ so sad.  I love the happy endings, but I hate hearing about pets abandoned like that.  It just seems so cold and cruel to do that to someone you loved and cared for.

He sounds super sweet.  Everything they do is just so cute!!!!

kirstyol – Sounds like love at 1st sight!!  Did it take long to bond them?  I’ve heard bonding same sex can be more difficult.

I met Cinder the Terrorizer (lol) just walking with my then girlfriend. We were walking by a canal, and saw plenty of rabbits just hanging out. A neighbor came out and said that he’s putting poison pellets in their food to minimize the multiplication. We grabbed a rabbit and scooped her into a cardboard box. Six years later, she might have ownership over me but she’s still great…somtimes…

What I love about Cinder is her affection. No matter how much she continues to dig at my door after I clap and tell her “NO!”, she’ll jump on the couch, and flop next to me. Sometimes I’m special enough to get grooming, too. I’ll never understand how my showering isn’t enough that I have to be groomed that much.

I met Chewie when I went to the bunny room of our local shelter to adopt a bunny I knew. He was new and unlike Selina (who ignored me completely) here was this little guy pushing against his cage bars to get to me. I was afraid he’d hurt himself with all that scrabbling, so I took him out and he attached himself to the front of my sweatshirt, buried his face in my throat, and came home with me an hour later

He is the light of my life – picking out one thing I love about him would be like trying to choose a favourite star in the sky

I love hearing about rescues! Whether it’s a shelter or outside. They are just such sweet animals, I don’t know how someone could not fall in love.
My story with Ziggy is pretty boring. Missed having a pet. After some research, settled on a rabbit. Found Ziggy online. His price was reduced because no buyers. I brought him home and his grumpy attitude stole my heart. Once in a blue moon he’ll come to me for head rubs and it melts my heart. He’s a good sport though about me picking him up and showering him with kisses. He just gets an annoyed look on his face. lol!
Lily was a whole big drama. Bought her off the same site. Breeder told me she was fixed. 2 days later I fell ill and needed to stay in the hospital. Since I hadn’t even started the bonding, I asked my mum to take her till I was better. That’s when she had a surprise litter! (so she was pregnant when he sold her to me). The litter of 3 died. We got her spayed and after she was healed I brought her back to my place. Her & Ziggy were an instant bond. He loves her so much.
And I totally adore her!! She’s cuddly, mischievous, and just all around nosey. And there’s not a shy bone in her body. Anyone that comes over needs to be inspected for food. A girl after my own heart. lol!!

When I was younger I had flemishes and two holland lops ( some paired some not )
I’ve been without a bunny for 8years ish – got married and had children since, got 2 fish and life just went on a different path.
When we decided we wanted a pet – A holland lop was top option for us so along came Oakley
We met him at the breeders at 3weeks old – his colour really stood out to us as he was a creamy colour and not like any I’ve seen before and he was the only one like it there too. He was a snuggle bug from that second and has been ever since. That’s what I love about him the most too- he rests his head in my hands and he is most content when I lay with him and cuddle while he sleeps on his blanket. I knew he was the one the second I saw him. He’s my children’s first bunny so it’s been amazing seeing them get attached and loving him so much

Zeke’s a funny story, I went to the local pet store with my dad to pick up some guinea pig food and well one thing lead to another, I was looking at the bunnies. For some reason out of all the rabbits they had, I think they had like New Zealand Reds and Whites and California Whites(which is what Zeke is.). He was the only bunny that didn’t run when you tried to pick him up, he also chewed at my shirt when he wanted attention. So, he kind of picked me instead of me picking him. Plus he was a late b-day present. Best b-day present ever.

It was the summer after my freshman year in college when my roommate told me her friend has a roommate with rabbits that had an accidental litter. Apparently one of the babies crawled out of the cage and accidentally got stepped on and died. I remember thinking that person sounds like a terrible person. Fast forward 1 week, my roommate told me the same girl was going to dump two of the remaining boy babies on campus since no one wants them. I was mortified and drove over to that girls apartment not knowing anything about rabbits. When I showed up she said I can’t take them unless I pay her $20 for each rabbit (even though she was about to just toss them out to fend for themselves!!). I paid up and took them from her.

That same night I went out and bought a crappy 1.5×3.5 cage. I housed them together (9weeks old) because I didn’t know any better. I spent the following 2 weeks researching rabbits and separated them after their first fight. After they got neutered I rebonded them and they moved into a 2 width 2 depth and 5 high three floor NIC condo.

Chicho passes away a couple months ago. Two weeks ago I took Lilo to a rabbit rescue and that’s how we met Pepper. She was born at the rescue and had a pretty rough past (adopted and returned, her bonded sister passing away).

My favorite thing about each rabbit. Chicho: how kind and loving he was toward Lilo, he was a grooming monster for Lilo but sassy toward me. Lilo: my cuddle rabbit, cuddle anywhere everywhere all the time, we have grown a lot closer (if that’s even possible) since Chicho’s death. Pepper: seemingly shy but shes kind of crazy and I love it, she will always let you know if what you’re doing is ok, if it’s not expect nudges and possibly a nip.

kirstyol – Sounds like love at 1st sight!!  Did it take long to bond them?  I’ve heard bonding same sex can be more difficult.

Believe it or not it didn’t. When I brought Ron home it was late at night so no way to get him to the vet for a check up – I wasn’t willing to even let them be in the same room until I had Ron checked out so I set Ron up in the hall in Bramble’s old baby cage which we still had kicking about in a cupboard (the cage he came with was inhabitable) The cage was far too small for him but it was all I had and there was nowhere open to get a new pen or anything so it was going to have to do overnight. While I was setting things up I could hear Bramble in the other room going nuts and even thumping (at this point I didn’t actually know that Bramble knew how to thump, he had literally never done it before) I thought I had made the most terrible mistake – Bramble obviously knew there was another rabbit here and he clearly hated him!

We went to the vet the next day and Ron got a clean bill of health apart from the obvious weight and matted fur issues, there was nothing stopping me putting the guys in the same room but we had no plans to bond them until we got Ron all fixed up and his diet changed from the horrible multi coloured supermarket own brand food he was on to what we use. Bramble had other ideas he was just going mental and was so stressed out you couldn’t believe it. I actually started thinking about finding another home for Ron as much as it pains me to admit to that now because Bramble was so distressed. I know my Bramble though, he is super friendly and I began to wonder if he wasn’t so much annoyed that there was another rabbit here that he didn’t want to be here, but rather annoyed that there was another rabbit here that he couldn’t get to to play with. I took a chance and set a pen up in the hall for them with a brand new blanket – within an hour they were sharing a salad before having a lie down together! They were living together full time within a week because every time we took them to their separate areas poor Bramble would lose the plot! They are super happy together and always have been – but I very much think our situation was an exception to the rule, I don’t think many pairs of rabbits, same sex or otherwise, bond within an hour.

I tried to attach a photo of their first time together but it wont attach from my files and I am now on a different laptop than I had then so unfortunately you will just need to believe me when I say it was super cute!

I was browsing bunnies on Petfinder and looking for local shelters in my area – I had just moved into the city of Chicago from the suburbs, and one shelter stood out because their screening process was very intense! So I knew that they really cared about their bunnies. I had a bunny in mind from their website – a black and white buck who looked like a dwarf. I came in one night about a week after we moved into our apartment, and the adoption coordinator walked us through the shelter and showed us the different bunnies, and I saw the one I liked on the website, and he was just as cute in person.

But then I spotted a small bunny in the corner who was lying down in the cage. I recognized her name from the shelter’s website, but she must not have gotten my attention then (very unflattering picture, girls are always worse at being photogenic!). When we had to choose which 5 buns to meet, I made sure to mention that I wanted to meet her, but luckily she was already included in the list The shelter tried to match me with buns that had the personality I was looking for: active and playful, friendly and affectionate.

The first 2 buns were absolutely gorgeous. The 3rd bun was the buck I had wanted to meet from the website. But his personality didn’t win me over – he just dug at the fleece blankets and marked EVERYWHERE. He seemed too wild. At this point I leaned over to my boyfriend who was with me and who lives with me, and I asked “Which one do you like?” He shrugged. I said “You haven’t fallen in love yet, huh” and he shook his head. The 4th bun was the bun who came to be my Dorothy

They placed her in the pen, and she immediately put her head down to be pet, which made everyone coo lol My boyfriend then said “Look at her tiny paws!” Plus her paws had white tips, and I made the comment she looks like she’s wearing socks. And she was so happy and playful. She even binkied! I looked over at my boyfriend, and I knew he was thinking the same thing I was. It was a done deal. They had me practice holding her and everything that night. I felt bad for the last bun because it was a sweet Himalayan boy, but he didn’t stand a chance.

I have so many favorite things about her, I can’t even choose. I love when she puts her head down in anticipation for pets, I love that she loves to be pet, she licks me a LOT, and she flops against me all the time. Sometimes she’s a real rebellious bunny and can get into trouble, but she’s so sweet and affectionate it’s hard to stay mad at her. Along with my boyfriend, she’s the love of my life

Awww, poor Bam! So glad you found him and rescued him!

I met Breintje after a tipsy night at the bar with my crush (now boyfriend). He said: I have a very cute bunny, want to come to my place and see him? So we walked to his place…..and petted a bunny. LOL, that sweet innocent soul!

After our second date there was a bunny cage in my apartment, and Breintje has been living here for over 2 years now, being the most awesome company anybody could wish for.
