        Hello!
I noticed my 8 month old rabbit was very itch behind one ear and when I had a closer look saw that behind her ear was completely bald and quite red ans scaly! I work in a veterinary clinic and was told to treat her with xeno. She has had the first treatment and got the second treatment yesterday but there’s still not been an improvement! I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with this problem!? How long will it take for the xeno to take effect? Is there any other products you could suggest? The vet suggested it was mites? The hair loss is only on the one ear though and there is now a small black circle which I thought was a patch of new hair growth but I can’t feel or see any hair! Hate to see my wee bun in discomfort so any info would be great!!!
I have attached a picture also
The picture from further away (more red looking) was after the first xeno was applied, the second photo was tonight – you can see the small black dot! Strange! :p

        Thanks in advance!!!

It does looks more like fur mite (Cheyletiella parasitovorax), especially with the dandruff. I had to treat one of my buns for that recently. The spot-on treatment made little different so he ended up having ivermectin injections. The vet said it can be tricky to clear up sometimes. So if you are not seeing improvement with Xeno, you could get either the injection (1 every 10-14 days. 3 doses in total) or try another topical treatment, Stronghold (a.k.a. Revolution).

Or it could be ringworm. Probably worth checking.

Im not certain about the dark spot. To me, it just looks like pigmented skin or where the fur is just starting to grow back. It can look like a shadow initially, then after some time you’ll feel the fur.

Hi, we Recently found a Lionhead bunny and we are keeping it and caring for it, but recently I found black dots outside of his ear and they are bumpy. What do you think they might be?

Hi aalnahih. I accidentally prevented your topic from posting originally because I thought your comment was actual creating a new topic! My mistake.

It’s generally better for members to create their own posts to get more specific feedback. Add your own topic to the forum and it will appear after a bit of time. Again, sorry for misunderstanding!

I do recommend you visit a rabbit vet to have treatment done for the rabbit. I believe those are fleas or mites? And those will require medication to treat.
