  Hi everyone. Recently my rabbit, Sugar, has been just lying around on his stomach. At first I just assumed he was tired. Well around 3 hours later his stomach began making weird gurgling noises. So I searched around on the web a little and what I found was my rabbit might have gas. But the symptoms were: lying on their stomach, not eating, and stomach making noises. My rabbit has been eating hay and lettuce but not eating his pellets. So I don’t know if he still has gas or I just need to take him to the vet. Thanks for your help.

  With gas, you’ll often see the rabbit press their tummy downward or keep shifting positions to try get relief.
  
  A good way to tell if they are feeling a bit off is offer a treat they normally go crazy for. If they refuse the treat, then yes, they are probably having some discomfort. It’s not always due to gas. It might be that they ingested more fur then usually and it’s passing through the GI tract, or they a little too much paper or cardboard etc. You can give a bit of gentle massage of the abdomen. Rabbits that have gas pain often allow this where as at other times when they are feeling well, they won’t let you touch the tummy!

  If you think he might be having trouble though, it won’t hurt to give a bit of infant simethicone. Do you have any of that at home?
  
  I often keep a check on how their ears feel. If they are feeling a lot cooler then usual, I get concerned that the bun is not well.
  
  It’s good that your rabbit has been eating. I find mine go off their pellets when theyre a bit off. I think it’s because they know they need the more fiberous food at that time. When I offer things like rose leaves and willow leaves, they’ll eat those instead.
  
  Is your rabbit shedding much at the moment?

  Thanks for the great advice! He is definitely feeling better today, he has been eating his pellets and hay and running around. I will still watch him just in case though. Thanks again for all the help.
