I just got my alice spayed at the start of the month and now she runs from me. Before she would run up to the edge of her pen and beg to be picked up and petted and now she runs into her cage if I even look towards her when I am near.

Did the surgery go well? Was she sent home with pain meds? It sounds like she lost some trust for you. It would be worth bonding with her again. Easily done by laying/sitting on the floor and hand feeding her

Ya, she had pain meds and she has her stitches out and is back to normal now. She still licks me through her cage.

A little bit of an update, when I lay with her she runs around and plays like normal and she will eat from my hands jump on my back and nudge me with her nose but the moment I pet her or move my hand towards her she bolts.

They need a period of adjustment after their spay. Newly neutered boys do as well, but in general their adjustment-period is shorter than a girl’s. It sounds like she’s getting back to her true self and feeling great or she’d not play and jump on your back or nudge you, so I think you just need a bit more patience.

Oh my gosh, I’m so glad to see this post! I’m sorry about your bun’s behavior post-spay… My beloved Buttercup was spayed about a month ago and her behavior has been similar to your bun’s. Buttercup used to be sassy, fun, loving, and ruled the house. Now I barely recognize her. She seems scared of me most of the time and doesn’t seem to trust me anymore. I adore her and miss my little friend! My heart is breaking thinking I made the wrong decision to have her spayed. This morning she jumped onto my lap but then it my arm so hard it is welted and purple! I have been giving her love but she seems like a very different, unsassy girl.

BTW, her spay was successful and she is almost completely healed.

Thanks for listening and good luck with your little one!

Another little update, she is still acting like she is terrified to be picked up and when I trimmed her nails she seemed to be breathing heavy when I had to pick her up but other than that she is in perfect health and happy and will let me pet her but only when she thinks I can’t pick her up. I do understand that rabbits don’t like being picked up as they get older but this is a complete 180 compared to how she was the days right up to her getting spayed.

On a side note I did get another rabbit about a week or two before she was spayed but she acted normal, is it possible that she is jealous now?
